Steam In-Home Stream: Get your game on almost anywhere?
I've love the idea of cloud gaming -- basically streaming a game from another machine or server and being able to play it fairly seamlessly. Past services such as OnLive gave me a taste of this future, but failed to deliver a solid user experience.
We're starting to see more companies work on cloud gaming services, most notably PlayStation Now and Steam's In-Home Streaming service, which emerged from beta today. I'm pretty excited about the potential of this!

Valve Software facilitating ID Theft
Recently $800 worth of software was purchased from Valve Software using my wife's stolen credit card information. Besides Valve not properly authenticating the person trying to use the card, they then got upset that their integrity was being questioned and basically said that they didn't care.

What do you think of Digital Storm's Steam Machine / PC hybrid?

Digital Storm just outed the Bolt 2 -- a hybrid gaming PC and Steam Machine that dual boots both Windows and SteamOS. PC gaming seems to be on the rise and this seems like an interesting product to take advantage of it. Do you think this sort of device makes sense (and can it compete with consoles?)

Specifications for Valve's Steam Machine prototypes just released
Earlier today, Valve released specs for the 300 Steam Machines it will be sending out to steam hardware beta testers later this year. They include:
  • CPU: some boxes with Intel : i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB DDR5 (GPU)
  • Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
  • Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold

Can the Xi3 Piston compete against home consoles with a price of $999?
Ars Technica is reporting ( that Xi3 has opened up pre-orders for its Piston gaming PC designed specifically for Steam.

Valve announces Steam Machines!
A follow up to their SteamOS ( announcement from earlier this week, Valve has announced a new initiative to develop Steam Machines, a set of hardware built around SteamOS. Until October 25th, you can register for the hardware beta where 300 "Steamboxes" will be given away for testing.
