If you like the features and price of the single-drive My Book Live, you'll like the Duo even more. In addition to a second drive that brings either more capacity in span mode or a bit more piece of mind with RAID 1 mirroring (which is no substitute for backup), you get whole-NAS backups to either an attached USB drive or any networked share. And the much-improved WD2go cloud-based remote access is a nice plus, which is also available on the original Live via firmware update. quote

Western Digital's MyBook Live Duo is a good entry point into the world of NAS. The lack of active cooling is a concern, though — make sure that it's in a position where it can vent its heat easily.

Our WD Duo has worked brilliantly, the set-up is easy - if a little laboured for the RAID initialisation - and we feel our data is safer than before. Low power standbye also means this drive makes a better home media server than your power-hungry home PC.

Creating volumes to share with other users is a little cumbersome, especially if you want to give them internet access, and it can be a little sluggish at times. Even so, it strikes a good overall balance between ease of use and flexibility of features.

One of the worse purchases I've ever made. I am kicking myself for not picking up a NAS solution that allows for USB transfer of files. This. Drive. Is. Painfully. Slow. It was slow on RAID 0 when I first got it and is even slower on RAID 1, which took me about 12 hours to setup. I have...

I'm running the latest Mac OSX, a time capsule network linked to a high speed boost comcast connection and transfer rates with the My Book Live Duo are terribly slow, but reliable.
