Dude... you don't get it.

There is nothing wrong with material things, it's what those things represents. I don't know this kid's situation, but it appears to me that the mom is beyond excess with the huge tv. Is she doing that to show him how much she love him? Will she need to purchase a 135in tv next year? So what's the end-point?

AND why is the TV in his room? Maybe she did that to keep him in his room and from annoying her.

As a pediatrician, I have seen a lot of kids and teens who described their lives as miserable, when asked why. A good number of kids and teens would point out that they do not have things that their friends have, video games, cars, ipods, iphones, clothing, etc... They associate material things with happiness and worth, therefore they perceived themselves as miserable and worthless without them.

I went on a medical missions trip to central america last year, I noticed that the kids there were happy and content without a 98 in. TV, video gaming consoles, ipods, the last named brand shoes and clothing. They were just as happy kicking an old soccer ball down the street.
Yeah... here's how it's going to play out.

Everything is awesome now, because mom thinks that her kid loves her and kid thinks that his tv makes him the sh*t to his "friends" and neighborhood.

Fast forward 2 months... kid is no longer satisfy with a 98-in TV, because his "friends" lost interest in his tv and therefore their interest in him. Kid start to ask mom for more and more outrageous things to impress his "friends" and mom thinks that she needs to buy him these thing for him to love her.

Fast forward 10 years, kid is a therapy claiming that he is depressed because he claims nobody loves him and he hates his mother. Mom is in therapy because she claims that her son never loved her.

Fast forward 15 years, kid and mom on suicide watch.

Common tread... material things not equal happiness, acceptance, and love.

parallel lives: mother of a small village in a third world country buys her kid a soccer ball. They played day and night, kid got good, kid played with local kids... wins many friends. Kid still has soccer ball when he goes to college or play professional.
Yeah... Ed's letter claimed that innovations are on the way.

But when is the last time that Palm put out anything that is truly innovative?

The LifeDrive? bomded

The tungsten series.... maybe a few successful models like the T/X but how much did they take from sony clie's influences.

The Treo... they got that from Handspring.

High res support... sony

320x480 support... sony

VFS memory card support...sony, HandEra (TRG pro)

Multimedia... sony

virtual graffiti... HandEra

If you think about it... Palm itself has very little to do with their products innovating... they just took the innovations by their licensees and incorporated into their products. As the number of their licensees dropped, so have their features. When Sony pulled out... noticed the sharp decline in the models produced by Palm and the lack of features forthcoming from Palm.

So Ed can say that they are meeting the challenge... blah...blah. They have never done anything by themselves since the Palm V.
Seriously... how many people actually use their cellphones to do office stuff? There are the "mobile professional" but they use are carrying laptops with them. Will, this Foleo replace a laptop? Several deficiencies: lack of a hard drive, lack of any multimedia capabilities(watching videos in airports and plane)...

Underwhelmed is an Understatement!!!

Who would throw down $400 to $500 for a "cellphone companion" and cellphone accessory?

Most people could barely operate their cellphones besides making a call... they are not going to buy this.

People who are techno-savey will most likely go with an All-in-one device like a UMPC or more likely the HTC units.

Palm just died right in front of my eyes... the treo style is getting old...and now this...

sad...sad
Wow... this is the third business for Palm... an accessory to your mobile phone? Seriously? Maybe someone at Palm has a sense of humor... please...please someone at Palm... sense of humor??

"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
