ASUS Eee PC 1000H already unboxed on video {Engadget}
Jun 13th 2008 12:12PM Is this review from the future? I could swear he says "It's Friday, June 20th" at the beginning of the vid. Either he's somehow on the other side of the intergalactic week line, or he forgot to check his calendar this morning...
No, Nintendo is not dropping the price on the Wii or DS {Engadget}
Apr 27th 2008 7:12PM OK, here's a crazy idea that might make sense all the way around.
Instead of lowering the price and pissing people off, include more in the box. A second set of controllers seems to make the most sense. The social aspect of the Wii is one of its strongest selling points, so ho about making it possible right out of the box, instead of making every Wii buyer who isn't stranded on a desert island fork over extra cash for another controller.
Seems to me that facilitating more two-player play would also help Nintendo sell more product, so long as they could actually keep it on the shelf.
Same goes for the DS. You know, including a game like Mario Bros. in-box wouldn't add much to Nintendo's cost, and might make more parents consider buying a DS, knowing their kid can actually do something with that hefty $150 purchase, other than plugging it in to charge and whining about getting a game.
And if Nintendo is still worried about a backlash, they could offer a mail-in program where providing proof of a console purchase going back x-amount of months can get you the game or controller new purchasers get.
The kind of PR that kind of generous program would get would also likely help sell more product, giving Nintendo the kind of brand reputation that parents and kids both could get behind.
Of course, there's no real reason why the big N needs to do something like this. They're once again riding high on two immensely successful consoles. To me, though, this seems like it might be a smart investment in the future profitability of the company beyond the current generation of consoles, in case their next console is another Virtual Boy.
Just a thought.

$50 Teachermate PC launched by Chicago nonprofit {Engadget}
Mar 13th 2008 11:58AM Looks like someone snapped the top half off a DS, and added a some hastily placed buttons. I'd say at best, this is one (small) step above some cheap educational toy.
I know it's for elementary schools and all, but I'd say without a keyboard or some more complex method of data entry, this is a waste of time and money.

Corsair bringing 16GB Voyager GT flash drive to CeBIT {Engadget}
Feb 28th 2008 7:35PM Right. I have a Transcend 8GB flash drive that's the slowest USB drive I've ever used. I'd rather have a good 8GB flash drive from someone like Corsair, Sandisk, etc, than a 32GB drive from Transcend. It'd take like 24 hours to fill it up...

Syntax-Brillian's Olevia line: Now with 120Hz and more 1080p {Engadget}
Jan 3rd 2008 10:57AM The real question is, are the remotes going to randomly stop functioning in six months, like in most of the older Olevia models? I love the Logitech remote I bought to replace it, but it essentially added $100 to the price of what was otherwise a good-looking, cheap LCD screen.
Asus sez Eee PC warranty still valid if you break seals {Engadget}
Dec 10th 2007 7:29AM It's nice when a company retroactively gives approval for something you did about 45 seconds after receiving their product. Had my 2GIG RAM upgrade days before anyone actually had the black EEE in stock. With that quick upgrade, XP sings on this thing. It's my new commuter laptop. Get to the office, plug in the bigger monitor and keyboard, and it's now a decent office PC.
