I disagree. It was well-done and the young man should be congratulated for his work. It may not have all been new information for you, but I think you should be glad a teen is taking time to do things like this vs running around getting in trouble.

At first I thought your comment was whiney (there is strength in clarity and reinforcement in brevity) but you make an excellent point. Making hiring decisions on nepotism has rarely served the world well. May I introduce the great leader of North Koread? ;-)

If your goal is to restrict movement of poor people and crush small business, than by all means raise gas taxes.

After hearing the Autoblog Podcast #135, I do agree that CAFE isn't really the answer either. In fact, gas taxes really won't help out much in the end. While some in the media think people are going to buy big cars because gas is "cheap," I can't agree with that. I traded in a Durango for a Focus and think about it every time I fill it up. I don't think gas is cheap at $2.50.

After we all make similar moves and the face of our national "fleet" of cars changes to higher efficiency, then politicians will have to figure out how to tax us. They'll do it by using GPS or other methods. So, upping the gas tax really doesn't serve a purpose of helping the environment, it just provides another crutch for avoiding the need to make the correct fiscal decisions by the government.

So, again, want to hurt the poor and restrict their movement? Raise their taxes.

I generally have good coverage. I notice 3G doesn't always work indoors. Oddly, I drove through New Orleans a few days ago and had 5 bars but no Edge and no 3G, yet in rural Louisiana I had EDGE almost every and I'm talking way out in the sticks.

New Orleans was like a data black hole.

I had to download the update to my desktop so it wouldn't auto decompress the Zip file. I than did the "option" check-update combo and than it loaded up and I have downloaded "Twittelator," Apple's "Remote," and am downloading Poker right now.

Actually you missed the real story - it's the Buell Blast - it gets 70 mpg in the city and costs $4600. They are selling like hot cakes. Other popular bikes are the Kawasaki EX-500 Ninja, the BMW GS650, and the list goes on. I drove the scooters from Vespa and Piaggio and really liked them, but one does look a little geeky on them and they are more expensive than comparable motorcycles, but aren't as safe on the freeway due to the small diameter of their tires.

This is a step in the right direction.

It is a complete non-sequitur to compare the US to the UK or Europe. In England mass transit is and has been widely available. The nearest bus stop to me is 2 miles away. It actually costs more than the driving my car, even at $4.00 per gallon.

So to make snide remarks about US infrastructure and Americans driving big cars, etc... people need to understand the simple fact that this nation is not prepared for this and our citizens will do what it takes to get gas prices back down to a much lower level, but they are cognizant that we need to free ourselves of reliance on foreign oil AND using technologies that either use domestic alternatives or possibly pure electric/hydrogen.

So, if you feel great that gas prices are taking vehicles off the road, remember the millions of rural and poorer Americans who will lose their jobs and not be able to support their families before you bask in environmental glee. (That's you @armmat)

I normally just quietly read these articles, but these mayors are criminals and proverbial enemies of the state and people. I would gladly sacrifice ducks and lakes if it means we take the money out of the pockets of terrorists while we develop responsible alternative technologies.

The good news is that 70% of Americans support drilling on the OCS, and about 50% support drilling in ANWR. I imagine they won't tolerate such lunacy from the green fringe.
