Dude, you shouldn't buy anything by ANY manufacturer first-gen, apple or otherwise unless you absolutely HAVE to be able to say "I GOT IT BEFORE YOU DID LOLOL"... and face it, if you HAVE to do that, then you need to find your jollies someplace else.

The reason the Wii is outselling the other two has more to do with the fact that it emphasizes gameplay over Z0MG TEH POLYGONZ, and because it appeals to an entry-level gaming population, than because its price is so low.

It makes sense for Nintendo to outsell the other big two because - get this - it's not only selling units to the hardcore gamers who go, "Cool, a new Zelda game where I actually get to sword fight!" but to the people like my mom, who back in the early '90s would jerk the 8-bit gameboy around all over the place while she was playing Tetris.

It may not be the best graphics out there, but damn it, it's FUN.

It's refreshing to see something other than all the kissing up to Apple that goes on over at macEngadget. I gotta say, though...

For a price like that, the iPhone had better do everything it claims to do, wash my dishes, do my laundry, and give me the occasional free hooker.

I've always done this, even when I was little, because I can't stand to eat my foods mixed, and it made more sense to work my way around to the meat, even though I never had any real reason for eating that last.

Did it help? Probably not.

Personally, I can do without the graphics. I think far too many game companies are focusing too much on graphics these days and not enough on gameplay - and the Wii's got fantastic gameplay.

Is it sad that I expected to see "More cowbell"?

This may be just me, here, but isn't buying a Dell with Linux pre-installed sort of, I don't know, defeating the purpose of open-source software? I mean, the whole point of the movement is to take power away from the big guys, to get something YOU have more control over....

But here, let me pay dell to put together my system and install the most generic distro there is on it. I mean, granted, Ubuntu is *nix for noobs, but...

I mean, I'm NOT ever ever EVER going to buy a machine with Vista on it. I'd switch to Mac first, and that's not really something I want to do, but IF I were going to go the Linux route, I'd just build my own damn computer.

I could see how that would be tough for a laptop, though. Ahh, well. Life is one big gray area.

I'm not going to comment on the R&D vs. profit margin thing, because I don't really care. I'm not an iWhoreHolder, or whatever it is Apple is calling its shareholders these days.

I will say, though, that I'd buy a cheaper knockoff produced by some other company for some other service provider. Cool? Yeah, but prices on mp3 players have come down since the advent of the iPod, so I can reasonably expect to be able to wait for a cheaper, better version of this to come along.

At which point, assimilation will be inevitable, and the iPhone will be irrelevant.
