This looks great!
Kill for one of these. Not literally :)
Transit and walking directions have been available for the Windows Mobile version of Google Maps for months now. I wonder why it took so long to port over to the beloved G1.
Giveaways! Yay!
The fish are actually called bettas, btw. But yes, very nerdy. Never heard that one before...
Please tell me you're planning on live-blogging with the newest information at the top! Thanks!
No doubt in my mind: Canon XSi (450D). Canon offers better prime lenses than Nikon, and that along is reason enough for a newbie to pick Canon over Nikon. And the prices are better.

Get the XSi kit and then later on you can get some nice 'L' lenses. That's the high-end, really high-quality glass lineup of lenses.

The XTi will be a few hundred cheaper now, but the 3" screen, the improved body and ergonomics, and the IS lens in the kit is enough reason to pick the XSi - it will give you room to grow.

If you want some low-light capabilities (since the 18-55mm in the kit won't work pretty much at all without flash inside or in the dark), then get a 50mm f/1.8 for less than $80.

An excellent starting kit for less than $1000.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
