That charge for the update is not Apple's choice. They are required by law to charge for that update. Users of the iPhone do not have to pay because it is figured into their monthly bills. The same thing happened when the 802.11n routers were released and Apple had to charge for the internal Extreme Card updates. It's a stupid law, but they have to follow it.
OMFG... I'm getting tired of people stretching this designs life out further and further. It's not a decade, eight years or even five years old. It's two years old. If you put this thing side by side with a last gen Powerbook they are similar, but they are quite a bit different. The MBP is thinner, has cleaner vent placement and no ugly grey plastic on the one side of the lid. They are much easier to get into now, no spring loaded battery button.
Similar, but it's different. So, by my count that makes this design just over two years old and only a year and half if you count the addition of the Firewire 800 port in mid 2006.
Oh, and a decade old would make the MPB out of black plastic and five years+ would make the MPB a Titanium form factor with a black keyboard and the worst hinge design of all time.
It has to do completely with photo size. If it's a transfer from contacts it will be small and if you took it with your phone it will fill the screen. That's all she wrote.
So because the crap hit the fan with HD DVD last week Apple was somehow supposed to fully integrate all of their line with Bluray just in time for the Tuesday release? Get real. Give another update and it will be there.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
