Apple doesn't want to break into the netbook market. Apple wants to create its own markets.
I believe the conventional spelling is "burying the lede". Otherwise you could be putting some metal into the ground.
I think the removal of FireWire from the MacBook line is, in part, to help differentiate it from the MBP line.

I ordered a MBP pro yesterday and had to compare the specs to the new MB to see what I'm getting. For $177 (your milage may vary since I have the edu discount), I'm getting the faster processor, an SD card slot, a FW800 port, and an aluminum body. Not much else is different between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro.
Sorry about that Mac mini Snow Leopard server edition. But it probably costs a bit more than what you paid for your setup.
@gittenlucky, it was the last day for the printer rebate with a Mac purchase. Since MBPs were updated not too long ago, I thought it was a safe move. I'll find out soon.
Aside from the Kindle, Amazon doesn't sell their own products, but Apple does. Apple gains attention when they shut down the store to put out new products. Look, there are 30 comments as of now about the fact teh store is down. Free publicity. Furthermore, it'd be nigh impossible for Amazon to shut down to put up a new product, so it's not a good analogy.
Poor analogy. Amazon has millions(?) of books. I can count on my fingers the number of main product lines Apple has.
I just put an order in for a MacBook Pro yesterday, but I doubt any changes are coming down that pipe.
It doesn't need to. They do it for the attention related to a new product being released.
Where's the data about which machine is the primary machine in a Mac/PC mixed household? Anyone want to bet on the PC side? If so, I'll bet on Mac.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
