No mention of the shoddy reporting both here and abroad regarding the "Apple blames discoloration on weather" B.S. that Engd. reposted here (apparently without reading or understanding the crappy journalism taking place on the Telegraph's original).

1.) Apple isn't making a statement about discoloration.
2.) There is an Apple Knowledge Base article regarding the display of a message that an iPhone's internal temperature has exceeded operational limits; the Kbase article says that ensuring the iPhone the hot temperatures may prompt this message.

I don't care if this is the part where we Love/Hate Apple to drive pageviews and ad revenue, but how about some journalistic standards? Engd. is wrong, cited to a crap story, and still hasn't effectively clarified that. You want bloggers to be treated like journalists? Act like journalists.
@jcudlaz
The average consumer (read: the mass market Tivo hopes buys their product) is unfamiliar with the Cable Card system, and is unlikely to support major adoption, especially when they get DVR right from their box (without limiting PPV or On-Demand programming).

I realize your point is that it's not easier *for you* but unless you're willing to carry Tivo's profit margin from the mainstream consumers, it's a moot point. Cable card is not ubiquitous. It is not easy for the mainstream consumer, and those cable companies offer DVR's with their service.

I don't know how to do the math any easier.
This is 100% correct.

Cable and Satellite providers are killing Tivo. It's just too much of a pain to make a Tivo operate with a high-end system, unless you can get a decent Cablecard option, something almost unknown to consumers. Until Tivo makes the right deals, or the providers ease up their restrictions, Tivo began to die when Digital and HD cable/satellite became default options from providers.

::shrug::

IR Blasters and cablecards aren't going to sway the masses. I really don't think Tivo has a chance, which is a shame, because as far as I can tell they're the only ones who actually put any thought into where to skip back to when pressing "Play" following a fast forward.
Robbery? Are you sure it's robbery?

I may be a little screwy on my definitions, but when someone is robbed they don't have a choice in the matter. When someone makes a 17MBP purchase they're probably making a choice.

I guess what you're saying is that this machine isn't for you. But that's not the attention-getting hyperbole you were looking for was it?
@ Reader:

Proof: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

You have offered up conjecture and circumstantial evidence, this is not proof. Not in a box, not with a fox. Not on a train, not in the rain.
I'm not saying you're wrong in your conclusions (though I think you are, mobiles have become like fashion accessories, it's not beyond the realm of belief that someone buys a new one when it comes out, nor does an owning an iPhone constitute prima facie evidence of fanboyism...), simply that calling it "proof" is a poor rhetorical device. You point sounds much stronger when you don't overstate the weight of the evidence.
Why isn't there a screenshot in landscape mode? That doesn't seem like you TUAW...
I thought the same thing. Sad that it took the iPhone to finally spur RIM to action.
Maybe I'm not understanding what we're talking about here, but I'm able to Cmnd-click on the "Downloads" stack and it opens the "Downloads" folder in Finder...

I'm sure I've obviously missed the point.
Is there a way to make it so there are two discrete stacks, one for "Recent Documents" and one for "Recent Applications"

Thank you both by the way, that was great!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
