ASUS can't help itself, debuts Eee PC 904 HD {Engadget}
Jul 3rd 2008 8:55AM This is gotta be the dumbest idea ever to come out of the Eee PC development team. Just when I was about to praise them for putting in a bigger screen and removing the space wasting bezel in the 900 and 901...someone figured what a great idea it'll be to put it back into the 10 inch casing...*sigh*

Samsung said to be prepping lower cost, education-minded Q1 Ultra {Engadget}
Mar 17th 2008 10:25PM Those tiny keyboard buttons were placed at both corners so users can type with their thumbs like they do on cell phones. It sounds like a great idea until you actually try that thing. Those keys are too small, too cramped, and very uncomfortable to use.
Windows passwords easily bypassed over Firewire {Engadget}
Mar 4th 2008 3:27PM If you have physical access to a Windows PC, you can literally do anything to it. It's just a matter of how quickly you can get it done. That Firewire approach sure is convenient though...
Wii FreeLoader gives you region-free gaming without the mods {Engadget}
Feb 28th 2008 8:19PM "Backups" aren't pirated game half of the time. They're pirated games nearly 100% of the time. That's just a nicer way of saying "pirated" games out in the public.
Anyway, even a region free Wii would make this worth while. The Japanese Wii games are usually released much sooner than the US version. By the time we see those US releases, the Japanese ones are sold at discount as older games...

Ask Engadget: What's the best console for a new gamer? {Engadget}
Feb 22nd 2008 6:20PM It depends on what type of games he's looking forward to play.
He mentioned "I do prefer a regular controller over other designs". Well, then the Wii is definitely NOT suitable for him. Wii uses a new generation of controllers that probably will be imitated by Sony and Microsoft. But in his case, he prefers old school controller pads.
He also said "Ability to play media over my home network would be neat, but not necessary. Price is not a major issue." That means the high price tag of PS3 won't really bother him. For the time being, there's not a lot of impressive games for PS3. But the Blu-ray playback would be a plus if he intends to upgrade his DVD collection in the future.
For now, I'd say Xbox 360 would be a great value for the price if he enjoys games like Halo 3. And since it's been out longer than PS3, there are also more games he can choose from.
However, this is the year when trademark games such as Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, and the next Final Fantasy will be released for PS3. It's also the year when Blu-ray format officially wins out. If he's into those PS3 exclusive games, and is interested in watching movies in ultra high def, it might be worth while to get a PS3.
And if price really isn't an issue like he said, I would suggest getting a Xbox 360 now, then also buy PS3 in the fall when Sony lowers the price of PS3 again in time for Thanksgiving shopping season.
Cloudbook shows up on Wal-Mart's website, ZaReason drops it {Engadget}
Feb 21st 2008 3:26PM Well, the product actually exists so it's not really a vaporware. But the way Everex handles this product roll out is totally disastrous. Never announce a new shipment date unless you can fulfill that promise.
The folks at Asus must be laughing their butt off...
WiFi trial comes to San Francisco's BART trains {Engadget}
Feb 21st 2008 3:02PM That is true. BART goes around the SF "Bay Area", not just San Francisco. However, the press tend to use "San Francisco" instead of addressing the entire Bay Area due to popularity of the city on national and international level. If they call it Oakland's BART, people outside the Bay Area will have no idea where it is.
