iPod touch 1.1.5 shows up, confusion abounds {Engadget}
Jul 15th 2008 8:04PM By the look of the Applications so far you might be best off with 1.1.5 firmware. Actually the 'remote play' application from Apple is worth the update but that's about it.
I think developers are missing the point of a micro payment environment, the payments are very small but you as a developer get lots of them, 20 or 30p a time by potentially over 8 million, that's a lot of cash. On the other hand £3 a time (or higher) and a couple of thousand downloads.
Just look at the iPod software on this device and then look at many of these applications, ow boy.
Surprise! Apple to refresh iPod nano / touch, make tons of iPhones {Engadget}
Jun 29th 2008 5:38AM Predicting Apples moves is easy they do the same thing year after year.
1) iPod touch will have update late September/October 2008, when a keynote event is due. This will be around the 1 year old mark for touch, so we will get a 1.5 version. GPS, better battery life, some sort of case re-design around the same old screen that will scratch more.
2) September/October 2009 we get iPod touch 2. This will include a screen change (larger + pixel density of the current Nano) and probably a different chipset, ow, and a case that dosn't scratch as much as the one before.
They shot themselves in the foot with the touch screen thing. Once you get the resolution high, the screen as large as it will go -within the form factor- and the fastest CPU needed, it's all software changes and prating about with the case every year.
WWDC 2008 keynote video now online {Engadget}
Jun 10th 2008 3:43AM They could have made sure that we could have all downloaded the new firmware yesterday, I wasn't non to happy, been looking forward to that for 3 months.
Was it just me or was this a non-event. All the stuff the phone now does it should have done from day-1, still low memory, crap camera (no front camera), and a nice shinny black case to scratch to hell, it's hardly ground breaking hardware wise. I thought it was going to be a good one. Man, I think we can safley say that it's every other year when we get the good stuff not just a bit of tarting up, it should have been the iPhone 1.5.

Google: Android will outsell iPhone, we still love ya Steve {Engadget}
Mar 14th 2008 6:56AM Well for me the best part about the iPhone applications is that many will run on the 'none phone' iPod touch. To me phones me work and work gives me a headache, iPod means free time and messin about. With good free WiFi connections popping up all over the place as the years pass the phone thing is wearing a bit thin with me, well, more to the point the whole contract thing is wearing my pocket thin.
I'd love to see a WiFi device (bluetooth for good measure, accelerometer, all that stuff), just a 300ppi 4inch multi touch borderless screen running a completely open OS like Android with a great SDK that even I could understand, no contracts, just a screen of fun you can put in your pocket, simple.

Polaroid to shake Instant Digital photo frame into reality [Update: sorry, game off!] {Engadget}
Mar 13th 2008 4:32PM Why not add an acelerometer so you can shake it to reveal the next photo, like the old ad. That would be a great touch, not that difficult to do either. Needs a nice 300ppi screen to realy get things going. Flexible would be good but a nice solid little white frame.
