Konami sues Harmonix, Viacom, and MTV over Rock Band {Engadget}
Jul 11th 2008 4:23AM Well you would think that wouldn't you, as it is logical and sensible. But no, it seems that more and more patents are being given out for basic ideas rather than specific ways to make an idea work. Amazons 1 click is a perfect example. No one else can produce a 1 click ordering application no matter how it is coded. It would be like Dyson Patenting the bagless vaccuum and no one else being able to come up with a different way to vaccuum without using a bag. The patent system needs fixing fast before innovation is stopped altogether.
Blazepro ships Wii Classic Controller, Nintendo hints at first-party classic attachment {Engadget}
Jul 10th 2008 8:26AM But the wiimote only attaches via a cable. The attachments and release mechanism are on the back of the classic controller. As far as I can see there is no way to clip the wiimote onto it.

Jul 10th 2008 4:58AM People on here seem to have some very strange versions of the PSP! This thing looks nothing like the PSP! The psp is sexy looking but rubbish ergonimics, this looks pretty dull but probably is a joy to hold.
Has anyone got a clue what the attachment clips are for on the back of the classic controller? Ther is a release mechanism too, but no mention in the instructions about what it is for.....
Broadstar Windsystem's AeroCam wind turbines break elusive price barrier {Engadget}
Jun 20th 2008 4:43AM Looks like this has the potential to kickstart windpower in urban environments. Situating them in a car park is a great idea. Also being able to place them into building designs is brilliant.
One thing that the site does not answer though is how they deal with wind from varying directions. Here in the UK at least, the wind can blow opposite directions from one day to the next (or even from hour to hour!).
Kaleidescape claims new 1080p upscaling DVD players "rival Blu-ray" {Engadget}
Jun 18th 2008 9:35AM I have a £70 Philips DVD player and a Samsung 40 inch TV. The Upscaling on it is amazing and does rival Bluray although admittedly Bluray is better. My Upscaler is certainly good enough for me not to justify buying a Bluray player and upgrading my disc collection at the moment. Maybe future Bluray players will change my mind but then Upscalers may get even better too.

Intel slapped with $25 million antitrust fine in Korea {Engadget}
Jun 5th 2008 9:28AM Of course it makes sense to punish them. It is massively anti-consumer and stops smaller companies from being able to compete on an equal stage. Intel are basically forcing consumers to buy intel chips (albeit embedded in consumer electronics).

Jun 5th 2008 9:22AM All the companies that are not Giant Multinational organisations and as it is illegal in most of the world (and rightly so), many stear clear of this practice (or make better efforts to cover it up).

May 23rd 2008 4:44AM The huge energy draw of CFLs when turning them on is a myth. I have seen a number of experiments and articles proving that the power draw is so small and the power usage when on is so low that they still use far less energy than a incandescent even if switching the CFL on and off every second. I have the spiral stype CFLs in my house and I generally prefer the light to incandescents. Plus my energy bill went down considerably.
