They're not checking for malware or bugs. Or at least not very well. There's already been software that has acted in a less than savory manner that Apple gladly distributed. I don't know how many buggy apps I've downloaded in the last year and a half. If they're looking for anything other than copyright infringement, or duplication of their core functions, I'm not seeing it.
@Charli that's a flat out lie, Charli. Verizon's 3G is just as capable as AT&T's in real world testing. In fact, in a lot of locations, AT&T's 3G isn't as fast as it's EDGE theoretical speeds. The big difference is that Verizon's 3G is their entire network, whereas AT&T's 3G disappears as soon as you leave a major metropolitan area.
I was up in the coastal mountain range of Oregon yesterday, in Timber, OR, where I'd never even been able to get a signal in the past on my iPhone 3GS, and was getting 3G speeds on my new Droid. If this claim that EVDO is as slow as EDGE is true, please be specific about where this is. I'd be curious to see if this can be indepedently confirmed.
Um, you can't run games on an Apple product unless they're more than two years old. Steve doesn't abide.
Good deal! I'm probably going to be getting one, too. I didn't think mention that I
switching from iPhone. I paid full price for this 3GS; at least I'll get something back for my expense (and the ETF).
After using an iPhone 3G and now a 3GS, I've come to believe that the stylus is a crutch. It's there so that lazy OS developers can shoehorn legacy controls onto a
smaller platform instead of coming up with a paradigm that works better. It would be nice if Apple were to fully embrace this smaller screen interface and get rid of that stupid control bar at the bottom of web browser on the iPhone. But I digress, I've already got ten stylus' attached to my hands, why do I need another?
Multi-touch or not, my iPhone 3GS gets bogged down and loses a bunch of my keystrokes anyways. That coupled with the helpful autocorrection turns anything more than about 17 wpm into gibberish.
I've got an iPhone 3GS, and I can say for certain iDon't get all of my phone calls, and iDon't get all of my voice mail. There's nothing more irritating to me than switching out the SIM card on my iPhone to the Blackberry Bold I have, and not only getting better call service, but also seeing all the voice mail messages that were never displayed on my iPhone. No doubt some of these issues are with AT&T, but I'm using AT&T on the Bold with much better results, in the same locations. I'll tell you what iDo: iDo get a Droid tomorrow and sever my relationship with the draconian Apple with it's arcane app store approval policies, and sever my relationship with AT&T, the company that would rather spend money suing other companies when they point out the real deficiencies in their network than fixing their network. Buy towers, not lawyers, asshats.
Apparently, a bundle band is something a super duper douchebag uses to tell a story.
It's amazing that you Apple stooges haven't tried to blame AT&T for this yet.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
