just make it a little more functional with email, twitter , browser, media player etc. all basic stuff. Then make it FREE. Basically support it with ads. So subsidize the low cost, and just give em away, then give it free low bandwidth support. If the economics work there would be a huge market for free portable basic machines.Im thinking about those early ISP that offered free dial up with an ad bar, I think one was called Net Zero?

i live in toronto where it's pretty chilly and we use LED traffic lights exclusively without a problem. Maybe their is some particular model which implores ice melting filaments or something?
its been done badly before, and in awkward ways. The tech has improved tremendously and I have read very good impressions of sonys implementation of it. I've also heard it will work with almost all of their library, including most older titles. This is possible because of the Nvidea RSX gpu, if you are aware only Nvidea currently offers stereoscopic drivers for their gpu's this leaves the question as to whether MS will be able to offer a similar 3d functionality with the ATI gpu that 360 uses? It'll be interesting to see how it pans.

I understand 3d has been around for practically a hundred years and has been a let down many times in the past but I am also encouraged from watching real-D 3-D in the theaters and I'm really excited to see Avatar this friday. 3-D has improved tremendously and if Sony can bring what I'm currently seeing in the theater into my living room with games and bluray movies then I will be impressed.
ummmm the hands-on with ps3 running in 3d at ces with wipeout, motorstorm and grand turismo was apparently totally awesome.

I can't see how adding 3d is going to hurt anyone? its just a firmware up date and can be on or off of course. It doesn't really affect anyone adversely and if it killer cool and game changing then im sure we will all be saying how wonderful it is next year. I personally welcome this type of innovation. I'd love to add depth to my games?

also Im sure developers of mainstream games that have motion control will make them optional. Although they're will be smaller psn games that are more like party games and are dedicated to motion control. I don't have a problem with this as long as its pursued in a balanced way. I have a feeling a lot of these shovelware type games are just going to be a lot of the companies that currently only developing for the Wii just working on small cheap motion based games for PSN and XBL.
GOTY for ME!
@Wowzers its actually because we have a nicely regulated banking system. This regulation was set up in the early 90s when the US was busy deregulating. Its a unique system in the world which has helped Canada minimize the impact of this global recession.

The trade imbalance isn't a "gift" from the US its simply because we have more natural resources and you like to consume them.

Im not trying to get serious, just don't think that your consumerism has saved us, it was actual our governments and national banks foresight into creating a regulated but free market.
our*
terrorist? REALLY? but yes it isn't only because we are fucking awesome, it's also because the our government recognizes the importance of the gaming industry and the jobs that go with it, thus providing the necessary tax incentives to secure new offices! It's also because we are fucking fantastic and they like to party with us and drink are awesome beer.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
