"It doesn't get rid of the annoyance that bike drivers ride on the street even when the sidewalk is empty"

Umm... have you read the rules concerning bicycling lately? Most regions outlaw bicycling on sidewalks. Bicyclists are supposed to ride on the road towards the right side... not on the sidewalk.

Other than that, as I cyclist, I appreciated the rest of your comments.
Price is nice... but it weighs 2.3 pounds? I'm hoping that's the full package... not the unit itself.
The whole idea of holographic storage is to store data in 3 dimensions. If that is the case, why would you need layers?
Kind of reminds me of something out of the comic strip "BC"....
So far, the sample photos from this camera look okay (JPEG) though a bit aggressive in the compression. However the RAW images look absolutely wonderful. It will certainly give Nikon and Canon some heavy competition in the latter.
Did you see the video? The image moved as he moved the unit... it's definitely projecting on the screen from his hand.

I think this is so cool... the next generation of PMPs and Cell Phones could start using this. It's definitely more rewarding than looking at a tiny screen all the time (and the projected image could be much higher resolution than the LCD display). Now if only there was a way to project the sound at a descent volume without having to come from headphones or tiny speakers.
Two concerns...

1) Noise level... unless Canon is using a new sensor technology (such as the Backside Illumination technology that Sony recently announced), the noise level will increase as the pixel pitch decreases in size. There's only so much light one can capture.

2) Very few lenses can actually out-resolve the pixel pitch on the current 10-12 MPix APS-C sensors. You have to buy pretty expensive glass to make complete use of the sensor's capability. Going to higher densities only makes it that much more difficult.

"It just means there's now a STANDARD for large sensor, interchangeable-lens cameras like the Sigma DP-1. Which is a Good Thing because then maybe we'll see more of them."

Yep... the one nice thing about Standards is that there are so many to choose from.
I'd be worried if the connecting cord somehow got yanked. That could really hurt.
@ Dennis

That's strange... my experience is exactly the opposite. The Wi-Fi connection on 1.1.4 was intermittent - even when the iPhone was in the same room as the Wi-Fi router. Now with the upgrade it seems rock solid.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
