No. They cut the optical drive to reduce weight, thickness, and most importantly, cost.I really doubt they will start offering optical drive soon.

If an optical drive is the only thing stopping you from buying a netbook and you only occasionally use it, buy an external drive.
Previously, I've had a webcam attached to my laptop connected to my 40'' LCD. I have two questions:

1. Why put the camera on top? It seems like it makes more sense, whether the TV will be wall mounted, or sitting on top of a stand, to put the TV at eye level. Although it would be difficult to see the person on the receiving video end if put on the bottom
2. Zooming in. I sit 5 feet away from my TV, not up close like those hot asian models. Even with 720p, without some kind of zoom feature, it's going to be really hard to see someone so far away.
@SNESimon I completely agree. January of last year I couldn't wait, but now I could care less. I'm sold on Android, and come January, I'll either be getting the Droid or the Bravo / Passion / Dragon / Incredible / etc. instead.
Terrible idea. I don't know of anyone that dual boots in OS X, although granted, Apple only has 10% marketshare, so it's a small sample. This will probably appeal to about 1% of the population, but 100% of Engadget readers
Who's to say new generation Macbooks won't come with the Ion 2? As it stands now, they have the same mobile gpu strapped to C2D. Why wouldn't Apple upgrade the GPU, especially if Nvidia is pushing it?
Wow, all Engadget had to do was mention Android 1.5 and 528mhz for this device to be a non-starter.

Device needs to be prices competitively (sub-$100) in order to serve as an entry-level Android device.
Does anyone think the Ion 2, or even the Ion for that matter, could be a viable graphic option for HTPC's when it comes to Blu-ray playback and DVR functionality?
Do people think the new Dell Zino HD will have similar specs to this?
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the allure of the Touch Pro 2. Sure, HTC has made a well-designed handset with the right specs. But unless you need a business phone, I don't understand how Engadget readers are dying for another Windows mobile device, especially WM 6.1 (I might be wrong on this last point.) Can someone fill me in?
Not a fan of AT&T, but I would love an iphone to satisfy my tech fetish.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
