i wanna listen to what my dog is trying to tell me
these would be worth a lot of money on ebay
maybe the criminals are just getting smarter now that they know the cameras are there
this subpoena isnt about new tech or competition. its about collusion.
hi, i like most of everyone's arguments here. im gonna throw a different idea out here, and most of u wont agree. basically, i think that it's in sony's best interest to NOT be the top company this generation.

in the end as consumers, all we care about is the price we pay, right? the $500 consoles, the 60$ games, $40 accessories, etc. well, take a look at all the consoles u have owned...they're in the closet collecting dust. how much have u spent during all the 5-year console cycles? i would say u've spent thousands of dollars on consoles alone and even more for games.

as for the producers, all they care about is trying to make a quick buck... trying to get us to buy those expensive gadgets. but think of all the research and development costs that burden them. plus the time and energy wasted on creating something that wont even turn a profit for years to come.

sony has it right on the head... Create future-proof consoles that last 10 years. why? because after implementing all the new technology, such as blu-ray and the cell processor, the only thing sony has to worry about is the game development and advertising. everything else will just follow like a snowball gaining momentum as it rolls down a hill. after 5 years, the console will be affordable to the masses and still have fresh batches of games coming out. good for sony, good for us. with 10 years being the standard console lifetime, we won't have so much dusty consoles in our closets. and we won't be spending so much cash on something and then throw it away when competition dictates that a new generation has begun.

now this leads to my point. sony should NOT be the top seller in this generation or in any generation. neither should microsoft or nintendo. why? because if sony gains 60% of the market share, microsoft will once again be dissatisfied with its console and create a new one for a new generation; jumping in early just to get another head start, thus influencing us to throw our ps3, xbox 360, and wii into the dusty abyss. and the same goes for microsoft or nintendo if either of them have 60% of the market share. in the end, we have more obsolete consoles and more empty wallets.

sure, competition and aggressiveness is great for consumers...it brings about innovation and whatnot. but innovation is not good for us when we can't afford it, like the blu-ray. also, competition is not good for us if it increases development costs, for example games increasing by $10. as videogame enthusiasts, we have to face these costs every 4 or 5 years! what we have is an oligopoly (a monopolistic market split between very few competitors: sony, microsoft, and nintendo. and with their products available at high monopolistic prices). in an oligopoly, all actions, all accomplishments, all failures, all information that becomes public will have a huge affect on the market. something such as sony or microsoft taking the lead with a 60% market share will stir the entire industry (example already noted above) because there are only 3 players here. oh, did i mention that it will be at a great, great cost to the consumer?

if the the video game industry can somehow reach an "equilibrium" or a balance, then the three companies will flow in harmony, instead of tugging and pulling against each other at the cost of the consumers. they should compete not with only their own self interests in mind but with the interest of the market as a whole. (referring to john nash and game thoery. any of u taken economics?)

so i say: all three companies should create their ULTIMATE consoles and make it last 10 years, just as sony has planned. so is blu-ray justified? IMO, absolutely if it promotes a future-proof console.
haha sorry wrong thread

i think it would've been cool if they made an epic crouching tiger-like story. it looked like it had a more focused theme.. instead the latest version seems to lose its focus, with an asian-looking lead character and grunts and a non-asian-looking king. nariko looks prettier in the first ps3 trailer. i dont know y they had to mess with that
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
