@Pyronick Android is already opensource, but they don't use it. Why ? Because one also need the cpu power and memory to run that stuff, while this cheap and crappy phones are essentialy less capable and powerful than any 2005 smartphone. I'd rather buy a used nokia N70 and replace his cover and battery, than this bulky plastic chinese imitation.
So why they're able to sell those kirf ? Because most people don't understand anything about their phones, they can feel good with a "lookalike" without ever realizing the software differences, and that is.

I bet this dual sim/ dual imei frankensteins have emissions and noises way over the safety and law levels in US and EU.
8100 also didn't have a qwerty. The keyboard is the same as in this new (and gorgeous) 9100. Love it
I like the feature.

Think about bluetooth dongles you don't want to be powered and connected all the time, or similar devices.
I definitely still rock a TRACKBALL.

The Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical (wired and wireless versions) are the best pointing device ever made, in my opinion.

Once used is the most confortable way to point, except if you need to play videogames, indeed.
I beg to differ with Engadget/Jobs statement about "battery life is a major issue on current 3G chips".
That's just a Lie. You can tell this lie to people not used to 3G phones, like in the US market, but you can't try to persuade people who are actually using 3G phones since more than 3 years !

Battery was a major issue with the first 3G phones, but it's not an issue anymore.

My old Nokia E61 (3G+Wifi) lasts at least 2 days hooked up to 3G network (for push email) 8 hours a day, with around 1 hour phone-calls every day.

Seems to me just like apple justifies their usual delay in lead-to-market.
Even if stuff about the battery were the truth, what makes you think that 4 months are enough ? It's not that the 3G phone born yesterday. Why 4 months would be enough for a breakthrough in a technology developed and widely used since more than 3 years ???

Woah, i really like that Timex...

Woohoo ! Webcam!
My guess is that huge delays in releasing SP1 are mainly due to 2 reasons:
1# PR. Microsoft can't release a major service pack so close to the vista release. It will lower further the credibility of their uber-bugged product.
2# Once released the SP, maybe MS will need to supply all the vendors with new oem packages, and replace most of the media in the big retail chains ... so maybe there's a simple stock-cycling reason.

Just speculations, of course. Maybe they're developing and adding new features to that SP1
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
