Apart from size I wonder why they didn't go all the way with the new mouse giving it the pinch/zoom features of the trackpads, seems like they only went half way?
IF.....This tablet is just a big iphone/ipod touch then it makes no sense that it's taking so long to bring it to market?
IMHO A big iphone/ipod touch is a pointless device, none of the iphone apps will look good on it scaled up to 2 or 4 taimes the size and most would look stupidly big if they did. If they go down that route they'd have to get developers to create 2 versions or run them windowed.

IF...the tablet runs snow leopard then a June next year launch would point at an innovative product with special touch abilities added to SL.
I hope that Apple go down the SL route and if thats the case then it's FAR more interesting that yet another (albeit pretty looking) boring e-reader like the Courier.
The best coverage and prices/packages I have ever had has been from T-mobile but I switched to O2 for the iphone, so now I'm hoping the Orange/T-mobile merger goes ahead with the iphone and i'll be in heaven :)
Big Apple fan here and even I think that was a very poor update....I was hoping for a one more thing after the one more thing :(...lets just hope that Apple has more up its sleeve before christmas. A very dull year for Apple updates unfortunately, really feels looking back that SJ's health is tied in with Apples health.
UK prices:

iphone: £342.50 -no contract
ipod touch - £165+
macbook - £719

To my mind there is a very clear market segment that such a device could fill, especially if they coupled it with a firmware update on the iphone to allow it to become a bluetooth modem.

If this was about 9", full OSX, very small storage 16-32GB, designed to use the 'net' part as in online storage etc (me.com). Any idea of this being touchscreen and a large iphone seem stupid to me as i don't see it being anything like the iphone.

with a decent enough processor i'd buy one of these tomorrow at around the £400-£450 mark as a machine i could have with me all the time as a perfect companion to the iphone.

Maybe i'm just in the minority but the thought of OSX in the Sony P or an apple netbook seems perfect to be to fullfill a need for being able to have a osx machine will me 24/7.
Never had any problems with .mac and all fine since the mobileme switch (maybe people in the UK have had a better time) I however don't really use the e-mail facilities but use everything else that mobileme has to offer (and that's what justifies the price)

And as for ipod touch/iphone upgrades, better add 4 onto the 'had no problems at all list' 3 upgrades and one new purchase and all fine.

Not a 'fanboy' but hate it when ignorant people like to jump on any bandwagon going to have a dig just because they have nothing better to do with their time. there are far less 'fanboys' about than there are 'hateboys'!!
Oh I know the market share is tint but therefore why build it to the same dimensions as the mac mini, its not like it has to be this size and shape, if anything for most people it will be annoying as it wont fit anywhere easily.
Why do they make something the dimensions (or so it looks) of the mac mini but then not have mac support nailed? :)
I was hoping for anything other than O2 :(
I wonder what will happen about the fact that the phone must be unlockable, will this mean we see sim free versions or that we just have to buy it through O2 and then unlock it.

If O2 do get I expect the price will be quite high for the phone as O2 tends to over charge for handsets vs. the others :(
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
