1) It doesn't matter what it costs; someone will buy one, and they will laughed at and ridiculed until our throats are sore 2) The rate at which the money is sucked from your wallet is always greater than the speed of the Rogers network 3) You will get to 99% of your download, and the modem will disconnect
The rocket hub will probably be like every other Rogers "high speed" device: tied down to the launchpad
How do you intend to power this? Run it off battery? How long? How portable does it need to be? How much storage space do you need?
There are many answers to your request: - If you're going to power it anyways, just get something with a dock, like a Zune, iPod, etc, etc - If you don't need the portability, try a media NAS, as many receivers nowadays can connect to your home network - If you're running off battery, you may be limited to something like a netbook with a large battery, on a shared network
The solution that most people use is to have all your media on a HTPC or shared, non-portable device hooked directly to your receiver, and then have a portable player for on-the-go. If you're out and around and want to share your tunes at someone's house, just get a cheap $2 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect to their stereo.
Here in Canada, the 11z is already available to order with those colours, 4GB, and up to a 500GB HDD. The CPU is only a celeron 723, though (no dual core option yet). Of course, the base model starts at $499, and goes to well over $800 with the above options :(
Well, I don't know why it was taking so long, but I decided to reinstall the software (it kept all my settings, however), which did not work. Then I tried just removing my folder of music from the "watched" list. Then re-added it. The DJ was up and running in seconds... Go figure.
Just wanted to point out to other fellow Zune users (or maybe I'm a bit slow to the social...);
Zune 4.0 software is pretty sweet. I'm running Win 7 64-bit, and had to run setup in Vista compatibility with admin rights, but after the install finished, I was presently surprised. There are a lot of new options; hardware accelerated visuals, xbox connectivity (not that I have an xbox), quickplay, HD support, smart DJ, etc, etc.
Definitely a worthy upgrade, even for those who won't be getting a Zune HD
...yet for some reason it says Smart DJ will take 15 hours to install!?!?!?! And I only have about 11GB of my music loaded into the software
Um, how long did it take for the original Zune to make it to Canada? And even that was "rushed" because they released it before getting the Marketplace approved and functioning...
If they wait to get Marketplace and HD Radio working up here before releasing it, be prepared to never see it in stores :D
Sorry but if those features don't work world-wide, then to the rest of us, it's just another touchscreen media player... with no market share
Forget about it, if you live outside the US. Microsoft clearly only wants to deal with the US market, as can be seen with the bad job they did marketing the first zune. The Marketplace mess was enough of problem, now add in HD radio...
Sure, I bought a Zune 120 here in Canada, but that was without needing or wanting the Marketplace, but wanting a larger screen, and more features than the iCompetition, at a lower price (including the dock and remote). There's no way I'm getting a Zune HD, though, as it's designed for a totally different market than the 120.
I remember when you used to be able to get a real processor in small notebooks. What's with the move to ultra-slow cpus lately? Wouldn't it be better to take a mainstream Core 2 and just speedstep it down when you don't need the power, rather than castrate it altogether? I guess this is just a new market niche called "back-to-school-recession" :D
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
