STUDY: Cash for Clunkers helped Japanese way more than Detroit 3 {Autoblog}

Nov 14th 2009 9:38AM I'm sick of the poltical B.S. on this blog.
You guys have had your shorts in a bunch over this program since before it began.
I wonder how many of those 'japanese' cars purchased are actually built in the states.. as a lot of them are.
Finally... the point of the program was not to help the "Big 3" explicitly, it was to stimulate the freaking economy.

MP3 in its sights: Peugeot shows off Concept HYbrid3 Evolution {Autoblog Green}

Nov 12th 2009 9:51PM Interesting...
In these pics it looks wider and lower.
The max speed in full electric seems limited compared to mp3 as well.
The storage, in these pics, also seems a bit limited.
The dual electric motors is interesting...as compared to the on hub mount unit on the mp3 (if I recall correctly).
Would love to see an article with a side by side review of these two...

AMEX DIGITAL's Mac mini Blu-ray drive upgrade kit is not what it seems {Engadget}

Nov 11th 2009 4:39PM So you're saying it "just doesn't work".

Buy a Bad Boy Buggie, kill save big bucks {Autoblog Green}

Nov 10th 2009 7:53PM It is nice of you guys to keep going on about how we don't know how to clean up the mess you guys created though.
It's very helpful.

Buy a Bad Boy Buggie, kill save big bucks {Autoblog Green}

Nov 10th 2009 7:52PM Undoubtedly they could not have produced such a nightmare economy from a fine one in only eight short years.
Funny.. the fear-mongering to oil-war strategy seemed so sound going in.

Pay-per-mile car insurance might come to California {Autoblog Green}

Nov 10th 2009 9:22AM My point was exactly that simply paying more for more mileage does NOT take into account the risk of the roads involved.

And I was not trying to draw a parallel to anything. Though I admit it was all the talk that has been going on about health insurance which initially got me thinking about this in the first place. Where I ended up is that there is no reason for most insurance to private market at all.

I am not against profit either. It has served us well in this country as the driving force behind the free market system which we chose due to it being the most efficient way to utilize resources.
But there are two places here where this breaks down for insurance.
1. It is not free market and that is precisely because the cost of entry is too high. It is simply poorly regulated oligopoly.
2. And the major one for me in the end... they are not distributing any resources. Having a free market (even if it was one) working in the insurance sector adds zero benefit to the consumer. There is no benefit at all to having it be a profit motivated enterprise. Contrary actually, the primary way for it to increase its profits is to provide poorer and poorer service to consumers.

Not Coming to America: Redesigned Ford Ka, Ranger {Autoblog Green}

Nov 10th 2009 9:14AM Well, hopefully nissan will still come with their small ride....
...and of course there will be the fiat 500.
Then the toyota --- err- scion iQ.
I am hopeful that one or the other or all will actually give us a decent choice of efficient engines.

Apple's Mini DisplayPort gets VESA stamp of approval {Engadget}

Nov 10th 2009 9:03AM Does this actually have some merit to take off?
It seems like I saw monitor companies putting in display port connectors for about 5.5 weeks and then they all switched to adding HDMI instead.

Pay-per-mile car insurance might come to California {Autoblog Green}

Nov 9th 2009 11:48PM So if I drive more miles then I pay more insurance?
What utter B.S.
Living in a rural area you are going to pay far more then as the nearest store (or school or friends house or restaurant...) is not very near.
However, the driving is MUCH less congested with far less traffic and way fewer things to bump into.
I would be very surprised to see insurance statistics that show rural drivers incur more cost.
How about we simply move all insurance to single payer systems.
The insurance companies are not building anything, transporting anything, or adding value to anything at all. They are nothing but profit machines. Even taking the face value of the argument that private is soooo much more efficient than government - I doubt the governmental inefficiencies would equal the profit taking of the insurance companies.

Hyundai wins Advertising Age Marketer of the Year award {Autoblog}

Nov 9th 2009 5:45PM I agree...
And they actually get stuff to market at a more snappy pace, it seems to me.
A lot more, "this is our new...' and less, "we are working on this and maybe you can buy it in 4 or 5 years or something and isn't it nifty....".
