In fact ppl can customize and make your own icons / background. Though I have no time to do so, I do enjoy downloading new themes for my PSP / PS3. Hope Cybershot / SonyEricsson phones have XMB too (with quick UI response, please)

iPhone may not be the main (and only) phone that ppl might use.
Take a look at the Willcom. ppl purchase Willcom as their 2nd phone, and for sure, the 1.5 hour battery life D4 must not be the main one.
I also wonder if they can't resell iPhone. The SIM card of iPhone in Japan is a custom one. They can't just plug their normal softbank sim into iPhone.
