For the same reason the Cell is better at folding.
@ harveylubin: So, I can natively control all of the BluRay functions of the PS3 with this via my 880? That would be a lock if that was true. I don't console game at all, but the ability to play the new Gran Turismo on my movie player might lock this up. Hmmm....
Because I have a Harmony 880 that I love and the PS3 is lacking in the IR department. Otherwise I'd be all over it.
Now I can finally start shopping for 1.1 BD players. Engadget, let's get some BD-BD reviews going now instead of BD vs. HD-DVD. It's about time. . .
Ya, I don't get it. I've had Discovery HD Theater forever and Discovery Channel HD for months now. Dish Network btw.
Will take.
Mr. Lange, can I get a "FIRE!" ?
The weekend Best Buy ad posted on Slickdeals shows NO sign of HD-DVD. Did they choose a side?
And DVDs looked expensive when compared to the Circuit City backed Divx at the time. Now mass production has a pile of movies available for 4.99 to own each and every week. Not much more than the 1996 Divx rental price.

The arguement for the cost of Blu-ray is weak. It will decrease when it gets widely adopted. Just like DVD, just like CD, just like VHS, just like HDTVs. Mass production brings prices down. Christ, HD and Blu Ray are less than 24 months old. Remember that $10,000 42" HDTV (720p no less) you saw in 1999? No one's going to own one of those right?
They are making a mistake. Just grab one while you can.

The KDS-60A2000 was $3499 and I picked it up for $2800. Then a few months later, the KDS-60A3000 could be had for $1799 everyday at Sams Club. F Me. At any rate, if you're in the market, pick one up. They're awesome. I also own two LCDs, and they're nice but for watching movies and getting the most performance per inch/dollar, the SXRD is impossible to beat.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
