HP Envy 15 unboxing and hands-on {Engadget}
Nov 10th 2009 10:46PM I checked these out at the local frys and they are both sweet machines, though the super glossy screen would keep me from ever buying either one. What happened to the good old matte displays?

Nov 4th 2009 5:40PM very impressive, but when will they realize we hate caps for our thumb drives? make them retract or have a swinging cap that you can't lose. CAPS SUCK!
HP Envy 14 on the horizon? {Engadget}
Nov 4th 2009 9:25AM if they can do the 14" with a 1680x1050 resolution or higher, then I'll be first to buy one.
Sony Reader Pocket Edition available now {Engadget}
Oct 29th 2009 12:39PM This was out before the touch edition, at least out and available. They both launched the same day though the touch was near impossible to find (I know, I spent two days looking for one), but everyone already had the pocket editions with plenty of stock.
Maybe this is the first time it's available on Sony's site or something? Fry's has even had it on their shelves for weeks and they're always slow at getting new things.
The one good thing about this one is the screen. It doesn't have the slight reflective nature of the touch, and is on par with the now-discountinued 505 for readability (what my touch replaced).
Barnes & Noble Nook e-reader leaks a bit early: $259, pre-orders are live (video) {Engadget}
Oct 20th 2009 2:24PM Some comments from an avid ebook reader.
That lcd screen is very distracting when reading. I saw no way to actually turn it off while reading. It would also cause issues when light is lower.
Highlighting seems as cumbersome as it is with kindle (only sony got this right with the touch), due to the fact they don't show how to do it. This makes the dictionary useless and highlighting in general useless.
Scrolling through the books to try/buy seems random. How many millions do you have to scroll through to find something you want?
What formats does this support? Looks like a few images and pdfs. So what's the native format?
How long does the battery really last? I would think the lcd drains it fast. sure 10 days with wifi off, but does that actually mean you can read for 10 days? or just let it sit for 10 days? The fact you can get extra batteries seems to indicate that at least in comparison to sony/kindle the life is horrible.
The only other problem i see is it's size. the kindle 2 is already too large in comparison to the sony touch, and this is larger.
I'll still definitely head down to my b&n and check it out. If somehow I like it more than my touch, then i'll pick one up, but i'm not holding my breath.

Sprint HTC Hero now on sale to everyone {Engadget}
Oct 11th 2009 8:00PM I got the Pre day one and love it. I also got a chance to play with this phone a couple weeks ago before it was released. My first impressions of the phone were very positive. I can't say long term that I'd go for it over the pre or not, but it was definitely a solid device. I'm not sure I could ever go without a physical keyboard, but the keyboard on this and it's feedback was pretty good (at least in landscape mode).
It's definintely worth looking into.

Oct 8th 2009 5:18PM ya as soon as you said you upgraded, you lost all credibility. never upgrade an MS OS, always do a fresh install.
Software firm finds Windows 7 doesn't boot faster than Vista {Engadget}
Oct 8th 2009 5:17PM who cares about boot speed, it's the speed of the system once boot'd. how often do you reboot anyway? i've been using the rtm for some time now and it's a huge improvement over vista.
