Microsoft provides something called the "oragami experience" for UMPCs which is supposed to provide a UI tailoured for the form factor. It predates the iPhone's UI. However, it is more of a marketing gimmick than a serious attempt.
This person's work is appreciated as a way to synthesize and experiment with the best UI for this form factor (a small, full function PC).
This is good, because as excellent in so many ways Linux (and its brethren BSDs, and other innovative platforms that can benefit from an open source nature) are, power management and other facilities are uneven.

"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
