Guitar Hero DS hack lets you shred on a full-size guitar {Engadget}
Aug 21st 2008 6:18AM alot of people do that on real guitar too, mostly players who aren't that technical and like to do everything with power chords because it's a shortcut to sounding good, but in the long run will hinder your technique. I know what you mean though it annoys the hell out of me too, triplets ftw.
However can't see why anyone would do that on guitar hero, I don't really know anyone that plays guitar hero though. I've played alot of guitar hero before but I find playing a real guitar much more rewarding, it's too bad that being good at guitar hero won't really get you anywhere on a real guitar...
New modeling technology breathes life into animation {Engadget}
Aug 19th 2008 12:37PM Ok I've been working in the 3D animation industry for a long time, this is a special type of animation called motion capture. Her face looks really realistic and great but I was not so impressed to read that everything else is real and they just stuck it on top. Mo-cap has been in use for a long time mostly to avoid the uncanny valley. The valley poses much more of a threat to those animating by hand (with keyframes and curves). Most animators can't afford mo-cap technology and probably won't be able to mo-cap everything they need to animate so it's not like this is the dawn of some new era in animation.
The CGI face is way more attractive than the human face in that video though.

Jul 22nd 2008 6:13AM Voice recognition will never replace the keyboard, can you imagine an office full of people speaking to their computers? And another reason, privacy, not many people would want everybody to hear the email they're about to send or their IM conversation, or the porno website they're going to visit.

Nov 27th 2007 12:44PM Think about your arguments before you call readers dumbasses. Doing these things in real life is not at all the same as doing them in mocap, as kneeyogi said, there is the issue of location and weather but others come to mind such as money, other players, and pain. Paintball is a good example, would I rather...
- Phone up several friends, organise a time, date and location, hope the weather is good on that day, spend money and time travelling out of town to get there, suit up, pay ridiculous amounts of money for paintballs, use the crappy single shot guns they provide then feel sharp stinging pain every time I get shot and repeat all these steps if I want to go again.
OR
- Wake up, go downstairs, play with as many players as I want (CPU or online) and use any weapon (or vehicle) I want, without feeling pain, and being able to go to the toilet or grab a bite to eat whenever I want?
Remember why the hell games were invented in the first place...
