I'm new to the Kindle; just got mine yesterday (Canada) and I'm loving it and still trying to find my way around things. How does one know when a firmware update is available or done? Is there a way to check firmware version/date?
@ack154

While I don't use the PS3's browser too often, I have used it on a quite a few occasions only because sometimes you're watching something and doing something on the PS3 and it's just quicker to look something up right there and then than to go to where my desktop is. Besides, surfing on the PS3 looks mighty impressive on my 50" 1080 display.
Love the overdue log-in procedure....that alone was worth it.
This is much better, thanks!

The only thing is the font size for comments is kinda on the small size. Maybe it's my ageing eyes.
It was down for me last night (Alberta, Canada) and intermittent this morning, but right this moment it seems fine. When it was down, email, Text, BBM etc... were all working fine (BIS here). Just internet wasn't working.

OT but the updated Movies app for Blackberry by Flixster (version 1.1.6) just isn't working on my Bold, just shows "Loading Movies..." and the spinning reel forever. Wish there was a way to get the old version back which worked fine.
I'm sure I'll get down-ranked for saying this and I'm not an apple fanboy but it's funny how we've seen a spike in Apple-cloning recently. HP started with their appropriately named Envy, then MSFT's retail stores looking very "familiar", and the Dell mac-mini-clone and yesterday MSFT's PR debacle with Win7/OSX....I guess all these companies are seeing what Apple's done quarter after quarter and the bean counters are making moves.
Updated was 157MB (24" iMac). Apart from the unusually long restart after the update (screen went blank for a good 20-30 seconds), all is normal.
Looks like these things are selling like hotcakes, at least on Rogers. Not one Rogers store locally has any left in stock and the main corp customer service just informed me yesterday that their whole shipment of 9700s has sold out. I thought we were in a recession, wtf?
Nothing's changed. Telus, Bell and Rogers essentially run the wireless industry up here. Price fixing? Of course. Even the CRTC sometimes acts as the legal arm of the big three, in effect eliminating competition. It's a sad state of affairs and we can't do a thing about it, at least those of us who need cell phones. This is the one thing that makes me not proud of being a Canadian.
The chin area is finally reduced, looks good now. But I'm disappointed in two things. One, they really should have kept the 24" option (27 might be too big for some and 21 is almost too small nowadays), and second, I wish they had released a wireless KB with Numpad. I have their small wireless right now but I keep using the larger wired KB for the numpad and the few extras keys in-between (Delete, PgUp, PgDn etc...).
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
