@stupidlenovo: In an ideal world, business would only respond to consumer demand. However, when LCD market is dominated by TVs, the LCD manufacturers respond to that market and align their processes to their biggest customers. Laptop makers are no longer their biggest customers, TV makers are, and having systems that all use the same aspect ratio is cheaper.

So, your underlying sentiment of "give customers what they want" is exactly what's going on, it's just that you're not the biggest customer anymore, so you're not getting what YOU want. Such is the way of capitalism -- the majority votes with their dollars, and the others lose.
Sounds like a good deal for TiVo... they get their units in all Blockbuster stores, and Blockbuster pushes them as the unit to buy. Blockbuster got the short end here, since TiVo already has Netflix and Amazon movie rentals. Anything that keeps TiVo going is a good thing.
You can't call it predictable unless you actually predicted it. Before it happened.

Sure, it might have been obvious in hindsight, but that's not a prediction, that's just "knowing stuff that happened"
OK, you're wrong. This post is just about the hardware. The 3.0 software DOES have cut & paste, and a whole bunch of other stuff people asked for. This, like all other releases of all other devices is an evolutionary upgrade.

Unless you're talking about a Pre, your Palm does not multi-task.
Why stop there? Why not 802.11z, 2048GB storage, 15MP camera w/ real flash, carbon fiber finish, and Bluetooth 5.0? See, the number can always be bigger; you're not thinking big enough.
LOL indeed! What, you mean you signed up for a 2 year contract last year, and 1 year into it you need to pay full retail price for the upgrade? Man they are a bunch of losers! Oh wait, you know what a contract is, right? And BTW you didn't pay $310 for it last summer, you paid $310 + ($80 * 12) for it, assuming you bought it when it was launched. That means so far you have paid $1270 for that phone since last summer. Now the new one looks like a bargain!
No, it's not about "if the dude working likes me" or something silly like that -- it's about how long you've been a customer and some other things that they don't feel like giving out all the details. Be assured, however, that there is some flag or calculation in the system that definitively states whether or not you qualify. It has nothing to do with what the guy in the store thinks of you.
@PeterF+++
Yes, exactly. Kids these days seem to want the new thing today and have no concept that they have to pay something for it. In this case, you're in a 2 year contract and, boo-hoo, now you have to wait for it to be over or pay more $$ to upgrade. Welcome to real life.
hob·ble: To walk or move along haltingly or with difficulty; limp.
cob·ble: To put together clumsily (ex: cobbled a plan together at the last minute)

Which one were you going for there?
That's not a compass app, is a level meter... you know, so you can make sure that when you hang pictures on the wall they will be straight.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
