NVIDIA drivers responsible for nearly 30% of Vista crashes in 2007 {Engadget}
Mar 27th 2008 8:33PM I love it when people who don't know what they are talking about like to get the masses all up in arms. Claiming that XP is superior is just plain wrong. It's faster if you're still using 5 year old apps and 5 year old hardware. Vista run on proper hardware runs flawlessly. In fairness I have 8GB of ram but it handles the resources properly and doesn't hang. Sometimes a program will crap out but that happens all day long on my Mac Pro as well (both Abode and Apple apps)
Vista is like Leopard. You can't expect to run it on older hardware. With up to date hardware they are both very pleasant to use. We have a mini (core duo 1gb) and the leopard experience is terrible just like Vista is on a "vista capable" system with 512mb of ram, shared video memory and a celeron processor. Yea, we actually have one of those at work. I have a P3 500 with 256mb ram I just setup with Xp that runs nearly as fast as that Celeron with Vista.
It's about the hardware people.

Feb 1st 2008 10:45PM I wish everyone would stop going on and on about this lens. it's a pointless publicity stunt. no one is going to lug around a 35lb lens to shoot something stationary. yea stationary. good luck hitting a moving target. let's not forget that it probably doesn't perform well at full apeture anyway.
Apple's MacBook Air is officially shipping {Engadget}
Jan 30th 2008 9:51PM Since Apple seems to think the truth doesn't matter, here is a laptop that is thinner and with 14 hours of battery life.

I work with 2 macs, dual G5 and an dual Xeon. Both take slightly longer to standby than my windows machine (under 1 second). It's not the OS. It's what programs are running, and the method of standby (mentioned above). Hard drive speed is also a major factor.

It's not that people are ungrateful and just want better, OK part of that is true. The simple fact remains that the OS grows with every version and requires more resources. I'm using a laptop with a T2250 (DC 1.73GHZ) with is similar to what's in the MBA. I'm a professional photographer and this is powerful enough to browse, manage and edit high-res raw files.
I just worked on a friends laptop to get it up and running. it was a single core celeron from 2006 and I could barely use the thing for common every day stuff.
I agree that the MBA is fast enough (provided you get it with SSD) but smart buyers know that laoptops are not upgradeable, thus they need to buy ahead of the curve so it's not too slow come the next version of OSX or Windows.

Poll: What's wrong with Sprint? {Engadget Mobile}
Jan 20th 2008 9:12PM @Eric
That's incorrect about having to have a myfavs phone to use myfavs. Kind of makes me wonder about the whole team of experts from MIT story. The truth is you can setup your myfavs clearly online just by logging into your account. You do at times have to tell the system that your phone is one that's compatible with the service that you want. For example; I have an E61 with myfavs and unlimited data with push email. I have 2 lines, 1000 min, 10 myfavs for about $70. $6 of that is for the unlimited data, the rest is taxes. I've never used any other phone but the E61 with T-Mobile. service is excellent and customer service is the best customer service I have ever experienced period (over the phone). I used to be with sprint.
Panasonic's Lumix LS80: the most exciting digital camera ever {Engadget}
Jan 20th 2008 4:32PM just get a current model 6mp P&S. The camera makers only bump up the resolution for marketing reasons and in return add moire and poor low light performance as a result of cramming the photosensors closer together. 6MP is more than enough for most of the population. Under good conditions you could pull a 16x20 out of one with some help from alien skin Blowup.

Jan 18th 2008 10:12AM did you not even read my post? what teanagers listen to stations in the 88mhz range? That's where the best college radio stations broadcast and usually NPR/PRI. Besides that not the point. I have a right to listen to any legally broadcasted station without the fear of interference from some idiot who pulls up next to me in a traffic jam. Broadcasters invest a considerable amount of money for the right to use those airwaves. It's not right that people who are too cheap to buy an updated audio unit for their car get to bypass the system.
