If you're willing to go with the "older" Macbook.....you can get the Superdrive model for $1144 at Amazon. Subtract the $75 rebate and the $30 credit for signing up for the Amazon credit card and you've got a great deal ($1039). Free shipping too.

I got one last night........
Jobs is too smart for this. He has something up his sleeve....he has too. The majority of posts are negative and he had to know this would be the response. Here's my take:

1. He is trying to get into the business arena with both the MBA and the iPhone.

2. He couldn't update the MB or MBP without angering all customers that bought during the holiday season. I'd expect an update to these in a few months.

3. The trackpad, LED display, and backlit keyboard will be part of the update.

4. The price points are ridiculous as some have mentioned. Especially, since you get more features for less money with the MB.

5. I liken this to the iPhone situation where he was the "bad guy" for lowering the iPhone price......they the "good guy" for giving the $100 credit. He's doing something similar here...... it just doesn't make sense.

pick me please :-)
I'll take that...... ;-)
I'll take one....
I agree......no sympathy. What is "admittedly saddening" is that this mother was murdered and the children now must suffer for the rest of their lives. I would bet the author would not be so cerebral about this case if it were his own mother.
I can remember back when Apple was $8/share. I almost borrowed the money to buy 100 shares. With all the talk of Apple going under I chickened out. Later, I decided to go with them (months before the first video ipod came out). I got in in the 40s. Of course, really glad I did. The question is when to get out. Greed is a killer and I don't want to be guilty of that. On the other hand, with Apple's strong fundamentals and the future of the new ipods/iphone, it really seems like it has to go higher.
#9...... you are correct. SJ is too savvy not to have planned this from the beginning. It's not like iPhone sales didn't match up to expectations and so they went to plan B with the ipod touch. Give me a break. This stock price decline today is just Institutions taking profits to get in at a lower price.
I think this is GREAT! NBC can take a hike. They want to try and manipulate Apple? Apple can play hardball too......they've just screwed NBC with all the new fall shows that are coming out. Apple made some of those shows popular.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
