Apple hit with two new class-action lawsuits {Engadget}

Aug 10th 2007 11:45AM I'm shocked at the comments here.

1. The first case is easy to ascertain. Either Apple is compliant with the law, or isn't. And if Apple chooses not to comply, the only way we "punish" companies in this country is to make them pay. A class-action lawsuit is the right way to make Apple learn its lesson.

2. Patents, the rights of an inventor, and specified in the US Constitution. If you don't like property rights, why don't you move to China? Maybe Apple should, too. After all they'll be closer to the kids who actually manufacture their products. I don't know if Apple's violating his patents or not, but if they are, they owe him compensation. That's how it works. Don't like our Constitution? Move!

Aug 4th 2007 10:11AM Anyone with a business should have an attorney on retainer. And if you ever get in trouble (like having a law enforcement agency knocking at your door), tell them NOTHING and call your lawyer. I'm shocked at this guy's level of cooperation for things they didn't have a warrant for.

And don't get your legal advice from kids on the Internet!

Panasonic's HDC-SD7 dons title of world's smallest HD camcorder {Engadget}

Aug 1st 2007 10:46AM The reason they tout the 1920 is that previous HD camcorders (including their HDC-SD1 and various pro models from a couple of years back) actually record 1440x1080 as the native resolution but scale it up to 1920x1080 on output.

So it's important for consumers with the older equipment to know that it's "full 1920" HD.

Panasonic's HDC-SX5 and HDC-SD5 3CCD AVCHD camcorders, again {Engadget}

Jul 30th 2007 10:15AM The difference between this camera and the previous SD-1 isn't 1080p, it's true 1080i. The SD1 actually records 1440x1080 instead of the "true HD" resolution of 1920x1080. But it's still "i". The wouldn't get 133 minutes of HD on an 8GB card if it were P.
