Iomega launches StorCenter 1TB wireless NAS {Engadget}

Apr 25th 2006 9:19PM Umm, wow, that's another dumb idea. Let's set up another wireless device so that other people can store kiddie porn on my hardware, even without a physical connection! Attempts at making secured and consumer-friendly WiFi have been quite unsuccessful so far; what makes Iomega think that such a storage system won't be compromised? I've heard the arugment a thousand times before: "Don't put sensitive data over the air." But how would every-day consumers understand that? How the hell do they figure out what a GPG private key does? What does "PKI" mean to them? They're still targets, and they probably will forever be.

How-To: SSH tunnels for secure network access {Engadget}

Mar 21st 2006 9:55PM Why bother making millions of tunnels when you could just as easily use "ssh -D 1080 user@host" and establish a SOCKS connection? Saves a lot of trouble if your client supports proxies. (also applies to putty: "putty -D 1080 user@host")
