I was one who ordered from Buy.com when the 6-cell was at $499 and still haven't gotten a cancellation notice for whatever reason. Assuming it will be cancelled, I picked one up from ZipZoomFly yesterday morning for $559 and they're still showing in stock.
I'm not sure what's worse, the waiting or the price hike.
It'll be at LEAST one more year before SSD's become affordable for even enthusiasts. I hate waiting on technology to become affordable especially when it's already proven to provide huge performance gains on what is easily the weakest (slowest) link in today's computers.
You can get the "cheaper" 20 inch E207WFP for $269 but IMO it's wiser to spend more for the better 8-bit, SIPS panel 2007WFP. Sure it's last gen, but your monitor is arguably the worst component to skimp on.
I thought the price on these were gonna be at least $100 bucks cheaper seeing how I just bought a Toshiba Satellite (15.4", 1.7ghz Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD burner) for $450 new. That's a $50 dollar difference for slightly more portability and a lot less performance? Apparently I didn't get the memo.
Anyone else notice that after AMD dropped the Athlon 64 bomb, Intel has been continually coming out with arguably the best products (CPUs & motherboards) they've ever created?
Thank you AMD. May you stick around forever just so Intel doesn't ever get lazy again.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
