While Apple should be dropping prices on their consumer line what is still sorely lacking in their line-up is a decent $1500 tower. I could care less about Netbooks except that I'll probably buy my wife one when our Macbook craps out. However it's friggin' ridiculous that someone who just wants a Mac that uses a desktop processor and has expansion bays has to fork out $2500 for a Mac Pro. You can buy quad core desktop PC's for under a grand. I'm willing to pay a small premium for the Mac brand but not $1500. That's why I've been using my G5 for so long. Apple is losing money by not offering me something that I can afford.
Chill out dude. I cannot stand people who argue and call names that if one cannot afford a new Mac then they should just buy a used one or hack a PC to run OS X. The whole point of the original iMac was that it was a computer for the People. Instead Apple has built up this elitist attitude that they're better than that. They've also built up a loyal, elitist following of users who think that they're better than everyone else. You may think PC's are crap but they make computer ownership a reality for millions of people in the world who could never afford to own a Mac.
I'm not sure why people care so much about Apple releasing a Netbook. I mean if all you're going to use it for is web browsing then it doesn't matter if it's a Mac or a PC.

As a veteran Mac user, it does annoy the sh*t out of me that Apple omits key hardware from their pro systems. Pro users pay a premium for the Mac brand and they shouldn't have to buy extra cables so they can use a firewire 400 port or an extra DVI based monitor. Also the pricing structure of the current Mac Pro line-up is a total rip compared to the previous revision.
"Wii Sucks", "I haven't played it for 8 months" blah, blah, blah... It's like you guys are part of some fanboy collective.

If you don't play it then sell it (though you probably missed breaking even on it. Poor stupid you.) but quit bitching about it collecting dust.

"It seems the mini is used by people who want a HTPC or a small, discreet box to run signs, displays, kiosks. "

I agree. Most people who are buying the mini are using it as a HTPC or a music server. If Apple is truly listening to the public then they would make sure to keep the optical drive, use the Apple TV interface instead of Front Row and have the option of a 1 TB hard drive (make the internal HD a 3.5" that is easily user upgradeable). They should also add HDMI and Component outputs. Sell a "bare bones" version (80 GB HD, 1 GB memory, DVD-ROM) for $499 and I think sales would benefit.
I agree with Wii60; Apple is dropping the ball. The problem is that they don't care. They're pretty confident with the iPhone/iPod sales that they don't need to focus on "computer" sales. They're not even a "computer" company anymore. The Macintosh is now more less just one of several Apple products. There are even rumors about that Apple will sell off its professional software development.

While I'm not really interested what will be the next mini (they'll almost for sure drop fw400 and the mini display port is a given. Will they offer an adapter or just write off 90% of their sales? With Apple who knows...) I would love it if they would just give us mid-range tower. A quad-core version of the current Mac Pro for under $2K would be great. Yes, I know I can buy used or refurbished but I don't want to. I'm still using a Dual G5 2.0 ghz and will probably keep it until Apple entices me otherwise.
Rumor or not it would be stupid for Apple to totally ignore the potential of including gaming capabilities. The perfect device for me would be an Apple TV/Nintendo Wii hybrid with a DVD playback. That would be worth $500 to me and I think a lot of other people.
I think simple games would be great on the Apple TV. Even a Myst adventure type game that you could play with just the Apple remote would be cool. First thing though is Apple needs to figure out who exactly is the market for the ATV and then develope from there. Even cooler would be to for them to open up developement for the device.
Flash is cool but I'm really looking forward to a widescreen iPod with iPhone interface and Wi-Fi capabilities. It would be totally cool to have either Apple TVs' or Airport Expresses' scattered throughout the house and you could just carry your iPod around room to room to playback media like a remote.
Looks fake with a photochopped logo. The camera is total vaporware until we actually see footage shot from it. No doubt I'll be blasted by the delusional fanboys of this camera.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
