Connecting a PSP and PS3 {Joystiq}

Oct 22nd 2006 5:01AM #16, SlingBox can't sue Sony for this... Sony came out with LocationFree TV before SlingBox. The PSP was always intended to play recorded files. If you look at the memorystick website, it suggests that users can convert recorded TV shows from their Windows Media Center PCs to PSP format and save it on their nice big memory sticks. Or, if you don't want to do that, plop down like 300 bux on a locationfree base and stream TV directly to your PSP. I've done both (both at home and remotely at my friends house) and it works just fine. Anyway, it's a natural next step to have the PS3 streaming content to the PSP. With more and more firmware upgrades, the PSP becomes less selective of what it won't show you ;-)

Sony's RDZ-D97A, RDZ-77A, and RDZ-87 HDD/DVD recorders record directly to PSP {Engadget}

Apr 11th 2006 6:06PM I don't think the shows record directly onto the PSP. They are saved on the HDD and then converted to PSP video format (AVC) and loaded onto the PSP memory stick. Kinda like plugging your ipod into your itunes to download off of it. I have a Sony TV/PC combo and it is already able to do this... the only thing it can't do is the 3 recordings at one time. wow :-). Good to see the PSP is getting more and more support!

PSP gets price cut, GPS, camera, VoIP and future media download service {Engadget}

Mar 24th 2006 3:25PM Oh, and I don't know if anyone realizes this, but it's not really a "price-drop"... they're just selling it as a PSP Core Pack without any of the accessories (that means battery and powercable only). If you're at all interested in saving your games or protecting your PSP, you'd have to buy all that seperately (and some people would have prefered to since day one anyway). If you're looking for the best value, invest in a GigaPack. That way you actually get a decent sized memorystick for a pretty good price.

Mar 24th 2006 3:13PM Way to go JetJaguar. I totally respect the opinions of the absolute gamers who prefer the DS for it's reasonable battery life and quirky Nintendo-ness (I have one and it's fun). However, all the PSP bashers need to realize it's a convergence device and a pretty good one too. I am happy using at as an MP3/WMA and movie player (I encode in AVC and have bought a few UMDs on bargain). I was too taunted by the LocationFree icon sitting there so I bought a basestation and now I enjoy watching my cable TV on my PSP as well. With the pending hardware updates, I'll probably be surfing the net/enjoying streaming web media with it a lot more too. I do agree that it needs way more game support. Some of the ones out there are pretty fun but they're too few and farbetween for today's gaming market. The PSone emulator for the PSP makes total sense seeing as I'd be more inclined to play PSone games on the go than on my PS2 :-)

I can only wish to live in a world without loading times... maybe this will be an advantage of the PSone flash ROMs.

Mar 24th 2006 2:43PM the emulated games will run off of flash memory and you will be able to download them directly via Wi-Fi(you know that memory stick icon under the game menu that's not for the saved games? I think this is what it's for). There is speculation that a new version of the PSP with more built in memory will be released... but I can't see why they can't run off of 2GIG or 4GIG MemoryStick Duos on the current PSPs.

Mar 24th 2006 2:31PM Is this really such exciting news? Well, for Nintendo fanboys/girls ;-) It seems to me that ROMs (especially Nintendo's) are available everywhere you turn... from the PC and modded Xbox, to the GBA/DS. As for backwards compatibility, it's pretty much expected nowadays (pay attention Xbox team!). Pretty soon every console and handheld will be able to play every type of game ever devised (maybe even legit!)! While this is still really cool news, I'm more excited about the PSP being able to play ROMs of PSone games this fall :-D But that's just me!
