Or girlfriends, friends, lives..
Wasn't the whole point of the ion platform to enable full HD via onboard graphics? I'm pretty sure it's got an integrated 9400m card, which is the same as the new Macbook Pro 13/15 inch base models.... All the benchmarks i've seen suggest it's a capable system for video playing/encoding, and light gaming (I think it was running CoD4 at 30fps but I don't remember).

If a reseller brings this out over here with a decent choice of OS i'll probably pick this up.
I'm not suggesting this is the best phone in the world by any means, but i whole-heartedly agree with this decision.

To offer a phone at $100 without contract, that makes free Skype calls (when topped up with $20 of airtime every 3 months), is constantly logged into facebook, and can synchronise that data with your contact list, and to also function as a usb broadband modem for $10 per gb, is something very spectacular, in it's own way...

They also offer it for $25 a month free of charge with an 18 month contract, with 1gb per month data, unlimited sms and 300 minutes airtime...

Other mobile carriers around the world should really take note. I mean, if all this functionality can be put into a ridiculously cheap handset, on a ridiculously cheap priceplan, what excuse can there be for a lack of modem functionality on other networks/handsets?
I forgot to mention perhaps the most impressive thing... The guy from the company setting it up was showing me a video of a technical demo they're working on developing... The basic gist was there was a windows desktop in the background, able to be used normally, whilst a standard '2d' movie' was being 'projected' (it wasnt, but this was the illusion) in front of it, at what seemed like half a meter in front... it was mind boggling to see....... As soon as i saw it I started to think of all the applications, especially video games, whereby you could have the user interface and options 'projected' in front of the game, meaning there was never a need to pause or get away from the action for a second... it's fucking awesome
I work at the premier cinema in Central London and we have a prototype 3d tv set up for advertising now... It's very good, but I think the tech still needs some work, some of the presentations work better than others... We have an iphone advert that is truly awful, and then an advert for some sort of extreme white water rafting vacation that is absolutely amazing.... My main gripe with it is the narrow viewing angle, and it's very narrow.. perhaps 90degrees for the 3d to actually work... and it only seems to be very effective from a distance of 1-3 meters...

It's still amazing to see something coming out of the tv, and if they can improve the viewing angle/distance problems i'll be very impressed, this is the tech i could really see going somewhere
We've had deals like this for a while in London, only there is no initial payment and you can get a fully featured notebook for $50 a month including a 3g dongle and 5gb allowance... i think the best deal i saw was a dell netbook with a modem built in for $40pm, the US always seems to get scammed on mobile data.....
I think that's the most important thing. The App Store is a simple option to try products. You're free to put whatever you want on this device though, someone can just as easily sell/distribute products from their own website.
Three Skypehone S2 is virtually identical to this, in software, GUI is nearly identical, it's in a small candybar format, works as a 3g modem, and is available as TWO phones for £99... and with SkypeOut now... I don't see why you need to buy this phone....
That's basically an Amoi Skypephone s2 in a different format, same software and GUI, all the features mentioned are on the S2... Which retails at £99.99... for 2 of them.... in the UK. explain to me the benefits of this?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I have a MacBook Pro and an Xbox 360 and I would like to get a 20- to 24-inch display that will support both devices. The speakers should be inbuilt, or there should be an aux out on the display to hook up external speakers. Help! Please!"
