Garmin-ASUS nuvifone M20 makes jump to Windows Mobile 6.5 {Engadget}

Nov 11th 2009 6:44AM And what happens when I need to alter my route to avoid a traffic jam? Or what if I want to take a scenic detour? In both scenarios I might need access to maps that weren't pre-cached and in both situations I'd be bang out of luck if I'd stuck with Google.

This would even be a problem where you're not driving abroad. What happens if you've used up your monthly data allowance or your in an area with no mobile coverage and need to access new maps?

I'd rather stick with WinMo and a decent satnav application than run the risk of having my Google satnav fail when I need it most.

Nov 11th 2009 6:20AM Note that Google's Navigator would be 100% useless for anyone who has to drive across national borders and doesn't want to pay massive roaming charges.

Windows Mobile 7 'Maldives' test program reportedly on track for Q1 2010 release to OEMs {Engadget}

Nov 11th 2009 4:08AM @what a surprise: Other than a flashier UI, what exactly is WinMo lacking that the other OSes have?

HTC HD2 ripped to shreds, probably in the name of science {Engadget}

Nov 11th 2009 3:52AM Gizmodo's review was probably the worst case of fanboyism I've ever come across. To summarise, everything about the phone is absolutely perfect but we hate it because it's running WinMo. They didn't even bother to explain why they hated it, just assuming that everyone would agree.

I barely bother visiting Gizmodo any more and its "reviews" like this one that will continue to sink them into obscurity. That and the constant Steve Jobs hagiography.

Nov 10th 2009 3:54AM @Jack: "They should be concerned because that person is using a PC instead of a Mac to run OS X on. That translates directly to lost revenue for Apple."

You sound a little too much like the RIAA. I think it's pretty safe to say that Apple would never have had that sale if the person is trying to install OS X on a PC that they already have.

Nov 6th 2009 6:54AM Is that a Nokia running Windows Mobile?

Nov 4th 2009 11:07AM It will work but your network connection will be limited to EDGE due to the funny 3G frequency that AT&T use.

Nov 4th 2009 11:05AM Comparing the HD2 to the iPhone you think that the HD2 looks a little plastic/junky?

The front of the HD2 is almost entirely tempered glass and the buttons are brushed aluminium. On the other hand, almost half of the face of the iPhone is plastic due to the big plastic bevel that Apple's engineers haven't been able to design away.

On the back and sides, half of the HD2 is covered with a metal battery cover whereas the iPhone is completely plastic.

Nov 4th 2009 11:01AM Definitely the HD2. After the debacle with the X1, I don't have much faith in Sony Ericsson's ability to actually deliver with the X10.
