I'm going to say at least 300 bones w/o contract. Buy one off ebay for a lot less, that's what I did.
Why is this not widescreen? I don't care how high you can drop this thing from, the screen is a deal breaker.
UMPC?
#3 Sony has been designing great looking notebooks with this simple and clean look for some time now.

I own a sz160, pictured at the bottom. And it comes with a black keyboard with the option in japan to get a silver colored keyboard.

#20, sony vaio sz series. 13.3" screen, nVidia 7400, 1.8 core duo, 3.7-4lbs. that is unless you want a mac...
Sweet, give me the power of a mbp in a 13.3" form factor.
I don't care who makes it, just as long as it has at least a 1.8 core duo processor, 100gb hd, be under 4lbs, have 4hrs of battery life, and a dedicated graphics card (doesn't have to be fancy). I'll be first in line to buy it.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
