Currently (IMHO, having used both), Navigon is a superior product at a cheaper price. The latest addition of the text-to-speech makes the Navigon offering even more appealing.

Tomtom really needs to get the price of their app down and needs to add the text-to-speech functionality. Already 2 updates from Navigon since it was released, and nothing from TomTom, despite the fact that it doesn't seem to be able to find Canadian addresses from my contacts.
I did a full wipe and restore (and jailbreak :). No issues at all. Battery life seems OK.
Yup, ugly. The glossy piano black with the capacitive buttons on the front were beautiful. The new model looks cheap. Matte finish (to hide finish flaws?), and regular buttons on the front (to get the price down).
I've got the Intel X25M 160gb in my Macbook Pro and it doubled the speed of the system as far as IO goes. Cold start to desktop in 25 seconds. That said, I wouldn't pay more than about $600 for a SSD right now. Capacity is increasing and cost is decreasing too quickly to spend more than that - in 6-8 months, the price will likely drop by 30-50%.

In terms of a SSD, I'd probably go up to a 300gb drive, but anything more than that you're wasting your money if you buy one right now IMHO. Just use it for a system drive and keep your data elsewhere.
Maybe it's just me, but "The Shack" somehow makes me think of hillbillies and Deliverance. Not somewhere I'd voluntarily go... Perhaps Circuit City had it right in Canada when they rebranded them to "The Source (by Circuit City)".
At under $3,000, I could see it being worthwhile, but they're selling small Vespa scooters around here for less than that, and they are don't have the range limitation.
Firmware 3.1 is already in beta to patch a major exploit through SMS texting. It would've been smarter to wait...
Yup, that's where I was going. The lightbar scan sound going back and forth, or the turbine sound. Very cool...
Wait until 10am Monday, then your "lame iphone" will be leaps and bounds ahead of the Pre.

(disclaimer: I'm in Canada, so it's not like the Pre is gonna be here for at least a couple years anyway, mobile backwater that we are).
So with their subscription service I can pay $15/month and download everything I want, and when I'm done I can cancel my subscription and just keep listening to all of the music I downloaded? Sweet!

Or.... does it cut me off and then I have absolutely nothing to show for my money...? Not sweet....
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
