I've spoken ad nauseam on this particular issue and finally sold my macbook to be done with this (what I perceive to be) ridiculous limitation. It is a hardware limitation, or Apple in their 'infinite forward think wisdom' (as I've been reminded countless times) would have enabled it in Snow Leopard, a mere 1 YEAR after the port debuted. But alas they didn't. It is still broken in that it can't carry audio, which to me makes it useless beyond a vastly overpriced Cinema Display as 99% of HDTVs utilize HDMI.

If Apple were 'forward thinking' they would have opted for a 1.3+ HDMI port and would have incorporated a bluray drive in the lineup a year ago, but I digress.
not in a popularity contest and I'll take my acer timeline 4810 with HDMI out and 9+ hour 'removable' battery, & win 7 uber lightness at a modest $500 price point any day of the week over my previous '08 unibody macbook. The latter I had for a year and learned a lot about OSX; made a plethora of tweaks; and used it professionally. Frankly, I don't see what all the hubbub is about. I find even Vista as, if not more attractive, and Win 7, no competition. Also Apple's aluminum is prone to denting (I know because I had a dent in mine!), miniDisplayPort a year in, is still horribly obscure and useless, and the battery life sucked. Now, they have this newer battery, but when I checked it at BBY, turned off all processes except finder; turned off BT and WiFi; installed Coconut and unplugged, it was still less than 4 hours of juice. NO thanks Apple. All I miss is Final Cut Pro, but that's what a hackintosh is for.
so basically it's a late 2008 aluminum macbook but with plastic and a slight cpu speed bump. WOW! Not really... glad I sold my late '08 Macbook, Apple are the only folks that can get a group of people engaged in what substrates its components are made of, and pay a pay a premium for an otherwise mediocre notebook.
correction:penryn, not merom... d'oh!
it's no different from the su9400 from '08 that they pulled the plug on for some strange reason... specs are identical. i just got a su2700 and although core 2 single core (oxymoron?) merom, it runs vista great; excited to see how it runs windows 7.
@ nathan

hahahahahah, got something I did want included, AT NO EXTRA COST. Pretty soon, MS will be selling the 'EXTERNAL PSU Brick' separately, with a better fan, 'to keep your 360 running smoothly'... it's all about choices right? Ridiculous-ness...
man... now I lost interest in getting this for the missus... that's just crazy talk for an OS crippled feature phone... might as well get the android instinct if that's the case. here's hoping for cheaper deals.
@Daki

mp2ts is an archaic container in design compared to mkv. While the process you describe by be fast, it's not really optimal for many of us to replace mkv with all mp2ts merely to play on ps3. I can only imagine the irritations I'll encounter when trying to decode with CoreAVC or various subtitle idiosyncrasies by changing format. Sony should just quit BSing and support native .mkv.
I like the phone, but don't see it as revolutionary as this type of commercial would imply.

Of course, Webkit browser is awesome (wish PIE would get with the times)... but

camera mirror, multiple open apps (my 4 year old WinMo does that, but it's considered a fault, not enhancement), and push technology are nothing new, quite the contrary. Synergy sucks until it allows for more granular control (e.g. who wants a bunch of FB crap clogging up their REAL Outlook contacts), and seriously... where is the video camera mode? Enjoy it Canadians, but if I were you, I'd get a Touch Pro II :-). You can do all that and more, and with a larger 'full keyboard', :-)

Actually, there are some cells taht can now... I believe the Wooo from Hitachi: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/31/hitachis-720p-mobile-hi-vision-cam-wooo-now-shipping-in-japan/

But I'm guessing the HD Is a moniker for its ability to plug into an 'HDTV'... sort of like the WD TV 'HD'...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
