This is supposed to be an insult to Apple? Try doing it with an HP notebook... You'd get a flat cake.
I've got a 15" MacBook Pro at home and a 17" Dell Inspiron at work. Exact same processor, same clock speed, specs almost identical. The Dell runs *COLD* to the touch. But, then... It's also about two inches thick, with big fugly plastic trimmings.

I usually wind up using my Mac at work. Sure it runs hot, but if I really need to run it on my lap, I'll just toss the sleeve case underneath.
How is it we (Americans) get bitched at for being stupid racist bigots one minute, and hypersensitive PC types the next?

I don't think there's anything patently wrong with these ads, but couldn't Sony come up with something a little less likely to stir controversy? Say maybe a black dog vs. a white dog, or cats, or... ninjas! One dressed in black, one in white, skin color be damned.
Cardinal,

It's the same reason people prop up their hoods at car shows. Engines might not be "pretty" to ordinary folk like you and me, but to people that care, seeing the innards is all-important.
Oh, I should be a bit more specific: Apple will use this technology, albeit not necessarily these exact Samsung/MS branded drives.
Recent Apple convert here. Note that I'm not posting in any sort of panic of frenzy.

I still use XP at work and on the old machine at home, so I'm completely open to Windows improvements... But I've yet to see any incentive to upgrade to Vista. The few features I was looking forward to--WinFS, and heck, I forget the others--were among the first features axed when Longhorn became Vista. Sure, GPU-rendering of the GUI will be nice, but what's it matter when the GUI itself looks like it was designed by Fisher Price?

But anyhow, I digress. I kinda dig the idea of these "hybrid disk drives". I question the use of NAND as a buffer for all writes to the drive, but imagine the implications for start-ups and hibernation/safe-sleep modes could be terrific.

To my Mac brethren: I'm willing to bet the next-generation MacBook Pros will sport hybrid drives.
Somewhat tangential, but regarding the issue of security: I've gotta cast a vote again for "Don't use the white earbuds." Between my Sony headphones and my aluminum Core Case, I've been asked by friends--who already know I own an iPod--what brand my player is. Even with the clickwheel exposed, it's pretty incognito.
See, I'm quickly becoming an Apple fanboy myself, but I'd be the first to *commend* someone taking Apple to task for ignoring a quality control issue. It's a very Microsoft thing to do, pretend like nothing's wrong, and I don't want to see that become the norm for Apple. If that means the occasional class action, so be it. "Tough love," I guess.

BUT... That doesn't justify this greedy-lawyer fiasco one bit.
Y'know, I kinda like using my laptop and my lap, so one solution I use is to keep my sleevecase nearby and use it for padding twixt the hot aluminum case and my nether region.

As a side note, I concur with the others who say the firmware update has helped with the heat. I've had mine on for about six hours, encoded some video, and it's still quite bearable... Before, it'd be scorching.
Doesn't really matter if Sony stole it from the Wii, or if Nintendo stole it from MS. It's technology that's been out there, and frankly I'm surprised it's taken this long to reach consoles. (Strictly speaking, one could argue that Nintendo implemented it (albeit poorly) way back with the Power Glove, though it used different technology to achieve the desired result. Anyhow...)

The simple fact of the matter is, Nintendo's delivering their system and controller for, what, half the price of the PS3? That's the determining factor for me.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
