This makes pefrfect sense. ALl that garbage software acts as a subsidy for the price of the laptop. Sony is paid to put it on their by the makers. If its not there, they dont get paid and need to recoupe that cost.
It wouldn't be logistically possible to test every drive sent out of a factory (this is why we get DoA product). The real concern is with Quality control at that particular factory, It is in an intentional act to add files to a drive, so they really need to find the employee who did it, its not like this was some procedure that broke down or something.

A similar incident happened with some iPods a while back too.
I was wondering the same thing. I assumed it would have happened already. Maybe Palm was being stubborn and won't sell.
For everyone who said to get rid of feature like sidebar etc... just turn them off. If you don't like to always be asked if you approve of something, then turn off that feature and have it auto approve. Vista out of the box is not all that great, but it can be tweaked to a state where it is great.

I wrote about stuff Ive done today to make it better at my blog

"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
