It's a demo of the projector, not the clock. I very much doubt the thing can make phone calls either. It's likely a shell with a light up screen of color printed acetate.
Not any old PNG icons, MAC icons. That's iCal, Quicktime, Address Book, etc straight out of Mac OS X.
The thing is there is *no difference* in the *quality* of the picture or sound on either format. The discs are digital storage. It's all just 1s and 0s. Both formats support the same video and audio codecs. You can save the exact same data on both BR and HDDVD.

For me it's just about capacity. BR allows for more layers which means considerably higher data capacity. HDDVD allows you to play normal DVDs, but dude, for $30 you can put in an old school DVD player. In fact I'll bet you already have one that's working just fine right now.

Now the reason BluRay movies aren't looking so hot is because Sony's got some idiots in charge who are demanding they use MPEG-2 compression, for which they hold patents and which makes them a few more bucks up the food chain, instead of using more modern codecs like h.264. This decision may cause them the game which is unfortunate, because the prospect of a 200GB, 4-layer optical disc in the future does make me tingly. But if they're willing to sabotage their own standard, they deserve it.
It's seriously old organic material. The green in the pictures is green plastic bag, not leaves. Those are bricks of rotted mulch. They ceased to be pharmaceutical ages ago. No clinic would take that in except to spread in the garden as fertilizer.

And to Chris Shunk: "...we can say that marijuana definitely kills enough brain cells..." Are you serious? Killing brain cells? The propaganda they sell to make grass appear dangerous is laughable. Do a little research, please.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
