DS Daily: Will you get it? {DS Fanboy}
Oct 5th 2008 11:24AM I wont be buying.
I don't see the changes as a good thing. I use the GBA slot a lot and although the SD slot will be interesting (as will the store thing) they haven't really shown what they'll be doing with it - and I have a feeling it'll be disappointing.
App disqualified from App Store because it 'duplicates iTunes functionality' (updated) {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Sep 12th 2008 9:49PM I really wanted something like this. It was frustrating being on Holiday and the only way for me to get a Podcast onto my iPod touch was with a 3rd party File app (transfer from my MacBook).

Nov 2nd 2007 8:09PM I never expected to be saying this, but Gutsy Gibbon has really made me see Linux differently.
It works great for most things, the mainstream programs (no iTunes is annoying) aren't there, but they've done a good job finding alternatives.
As for the poster who said that it can't detect USB devices, you obviously haven't used it.
I plugged in 3 webcams and all of them worked within 5 seconds of being connected - I didn't have to do a thing. My iPod(s) and USB Pen Drive(s) both work in the same way - plug in and it sees them instantly (with a music manager for the iPod too).
I wont say I have "switched" from Windows Vista because I don't think I have, but I do take Linux more seriously than I did last week.
Latest Halo 3 live action short is on XBLM in HD {Xbox 360 Fanboy}
Oct 16th 2007 4:12PM This is not available anywhere other than the US (and people outside the US probably wont even be able to download it using a US account).
I can understand putting it in that section on the US marketplace, but it should also be available to every other country (that was able to get the previous short).

LGC07: SCEE announces PlayTV for PS3, "watch, record and replay TV shows" {Joystiq}

Looks like Phil Harrison is saying that they have no plans to bring either the download service or PVR to the US.

Aug 22nd 2007 2:22PM For the record, if people think that CableCard is a bad system then you should see the UK.
You can't even get analogue cable without a set top box (and they don't allow you to sign up for that any more).
In addition to that, you aren't allowed to connect anything but the cable company's approved equipment.
If SCEE is really driving this idea, I can't see them working on CableCard support.

Aug 22nd 2007 2:19PM The BBC was trialing one channel at 1080i in a limited area, to a limited set of people.
Ofcom, the regulator is dragging its heels in allocating space for HD broadcasts on Digital Terrestrial. They are suggesting that existing SD services be cut and quality reduced to Squeeze in a few channels.
As I said though, there's no way to say whether they'd use MPEG4 or MPEG2 - perhaps something else. Either way buying hardware expecting it to work would be a risky move.

Aug 22nd 2007 1:38PM Seeing as there is currently no HDTV broadcast (not even 576p) on Digital Terrestrial in the UK, advertising support for 1080p is a little odd. Some channels are pretty low res SD.
The other problem is that when (perhaps if) HDTV does come to DTT, nobody knows what hardware will be needed and it's quite possible that it wont be possible to upgrade with just software.
Xbox 360 gets backwards compatibility update {Joystiq}
Jul 13th 2007 5:23AM Usually people have a problem with the PS3's BC because they boasted heavily that they'd have near 100% support and now they are changing things.
It's especially worse in Europe, you didn't get the chance to buy the "old" PS3 with the hardware built in. Plus you were subjected to a lengthy delay and a higher price.
On the other hand, Microsoft kept backwards compatibility quieter and didn't claim that it was a huge deal. If they had boasted anything more than "the most popular Xbox games will work on Xbox 360" then there would be a genuine need to lash out.
Nintendo has it easy, the hardware is essentially the same. "Backwards" Compatibility is therefore a LOT easier (as shown by the early PS3 models).
