iPod nano sparks bedroom fire, no humans harmed {Engadget}
Mar 8th 2008 1:51PM Update: still haven't found a manufacturer to build my SmokeShutoff strip designed to prevent the fires caused by things left plugged in -- it turns off whatever is plugged into it at the first sign of smoke -- like the dozens of fires I've blogged on SmokeShutoff.com caused by rechargers.
The manufacturers push the envelope to brag how fast they recharge, they've got fine print warning don't leave them plugged in unattended, and the public is surprised when they flame out.
LG halts sale of Z1-AE007 laptop, suspects defective battery {Engadget}
Feb 23rd 2008 2:55PM A search of that model number, Z1-AE007, does not yield any results other than news stories about the problem.
I wonder what the real LG laptop model numbers are. I suspect they're trying to avoid a return/refund nightmare.
It would also be nice to have more information about the fires. During charging? Or during use?
Typical lack of information from the corporation -- causing perhaps unnecessary mistrust of ALL its products.
I blog laptop fires here,

(along with lots of other fires caused by things left plugged in)
so please add a comment there if you find out what the real customer-visible model numbers are.
Vintage Sanyo fan sparks fire, leads to two deaths {Engadget}
Aug 25th 2007 1:27PM I've got a blog with tons of stories of things left plugged in smoking up and causing fires. Xboxes, laptops, chargers, space heaters, etc. I've developed and patented a power strip with smoke detecting shutoff, so a lot of these fires can be stopped before they get to full ignition. The power strip shuts off power to whatever's attached to it when it detects smoke.
I haven't found a manufacturer to license and build it yet. Keep your eyes peeled for me. SmokeShutoff.com
