Gigabyte Booktop M1305 ultraportable gains external GeForce GT220 GPU (update: now with video!) {Engadget}

Nov 6th 2009 3:08AM It makes sense - If this ever reached a point of having real, decent, upgradeable graphics and storage, I could see using a high power laptop as a real workstation or game machine at home, replacing the desktop all together.

Toshiba's 320GB hard disk is world's largest 1.8-incher {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 9:40AM How do you have over 160 GB of music?

even in lossless - thats rediculous.

ViewSonic's VMP70 media player does 1080p for less than a hundie {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 9:37AM seriously. One of these days someone is going to realize that you could boost your customer base by like 40-50% by adding mkv support to one of these player. I really don't know why it isn't universal already - its not like there're any legal issues - its an open source format.

but for now I think I'll just stick with my really long hdmi cable and wireless keyboard. It works well enough.

Lenovo's all-in-one ThinkCentre gets official, becomes A70z {Engadget}

Nov 4th 2009 2:01AM You gotta respect lenovo for their ability to maintain the formal / functional yet appealing form factor.

Add capacitive multitouch and I'd take this over those glossy plastic all-in-ones any day.

Oct 28th 2009 4:12AM I might have to go with the downgrade package and install windows 3.1

I'm really just not comfortable with the new interface, and then there are all those stability and compatibility issues...

IREX 8.1-inch DR 800SG e-reader now listed at Best Buy for $449 {Engadget}

Oct 24th 2009 2:39AM Agreed. I'm eager to see how annotations work when the update is released.

I've been using a tablet for e-book textbook annotations for several months now, and I like it, but I'd prefer the more paper-like screen.

The size and annotation support would be necessary for me, and I just haven't seen that combo implemented anywhere else.

because not all useful information comes in paperbacks.

27-inch iMac torn into tiny bits for the greater good {Engadget}

Oct 22nd 2009 10:54PM AS everyone has already pointed out, this is a rediculouse comparison. The screen alone would likely sell for at least $800, if an alternative were available.

I have been critical of Apple's pricing for a long time, but I have to say, the new product line, especially with the i7 option actually seems reasonable (given that at least a 20% premium is expected for smaller components and Apple systems.).

27-inch iMac torn into tiny bits for the greater good {Engadget}

Oct 22nd 2009 10:44PM While we are comparing this to most pc's, How the hell is this thing powered by a 310 watt psu (as is described at the read link)?

CPU - i7 - 90Watt

GPU 4850 -130 (idle) - 250 (max) Watt

Thats already over 300 watts on max load

Add all the other chips, drives, peripherals, and who could forget - A GIANT DISPLAY, and this thing should be sucking 700 watts minimum under load.

Anyone care to explain?
