"We were very lucky," said Eli, "If the snake would have hid in the house and bitten one of the children it could have ended badly."

too bad the roomba only caught one of the two snakes that got in the house.
you spelled "fail" incorrectly.
is it cellular? modular? interactive-odular?
personally i dont think apple should join that race to the bottom, where $500 crapbooks reign supreme. keep the quality high across the line or you may see bottom-end shortcuts creep upward into the higher-end lineup. dell is a fine example of "bottom up creep" and are trying to stamp that out with their adamo lineup.

it's easier to maintain the image of a desired brand than to rebuild it. once you lose it, you lose credibility when trying to rebuild your profit margin. besides, their latest revenue report shows they're doing just fine despite a global recession... no need to get desperate by jumping into a profitless sector of the market.

as for the missing firewire port, it wont be as missed compared to the late '08 fiasco since the line has been drawn: firewire is a "pro" feature for macbooks. plus, you can get a similar form factor plus the firewire port by going with a 13" macbook pro, along with other desired features, for $200 more. the problem with oct '08 was due to the cheapest firewire "pro" macbook was $2000 at the time and people werent willing to give up the unibody construction for a firewire port (i.e. get the polycarbonate macbook if u want firewire)

my apologies if i rambled... i'm quite tired. :(
they dropped the firewire port.
my gf has a blackberry and a 400 msg bucket for sms... when she gets near her limit (which isnt too often), we switch to using email as instant messages.

it really is that easy... EMAIL. it's the one app that stays on continuously in the background, gets pushed for instant receipt, is free with your data plan, works beyond your home network, is compatible with iPT's on wifi... it fits all the requirements and then some, and without having to buy an app.

it's awesome!

sorry, but TJ Luoma, you shouldnt post ideas from the back of the short bus. wait til you get to your destination so you can put a bit more thought into it. have you considered engineering Rube Goldberg machines in your spare time?
email, you morons. plus with full push gmail available as well as yahoo, for free, there's no excuse. if you just cant afford the cost of an sms nor have an unlimited sms bucket, just use email cuz it's free with every data plan.

iphone to iphone, iphone to ipod touch (on a wifi network), iphone to any phone that receives email...

i dont get why everyone is trying to reinvent the wheel here.

lemme guess... it's too complicated. *facepalm*
meh.

dont expect a tv tuner on the iphone anytime soon. of course it will be built into one of the many chips used, but it will never be activated, much like the FM tuner on current iphones.

it's already taken this long just for ANY ipod model to get a built-in FM tuner; that one being the current nano.

it competes directly with the itunes video downloads and unless apple can find a way to monetize it, it wont happen any time soon. apple could care less about what the carriers want if they're the only ones to monetize it, thus wont bother building it into the iphone... in case you need the reason spelled out for you in the most obvious way.

also, it's a portable device... who wants live broadcast tv on something that small? pocket tv's have been around for ages yet they're still not mainstream. the majority of people want "on demand" tv, or at least the ability to timeshift or record with the ease and likeness of tivo to be able to enjoy programming on their own schedule. live tv on handhelds will go nowhere in america because of this, "i get what i want when i want it" attitude.

sorry, but i just dont get the appeal of tv on a phone. i guess i'll have to hope a fatass midwesterner can explain the appeal of watching tv with an antenna at the dinner table, tv dinners, or a satellite dish on the doublewide.
"The idea is that most people have a couple of good novels hidden inside them, and that they just need a push to get those words written."

just because your creative writing teacher said that on the first day of Creative Writ 210 about 20 years ago doesnt mean it's right, or even true.

and if anyone is reacting with something other than laughter at my comments all afternoon, stop taking yourself so seriously... you're not nearly as great as you or your momma told you.
why should anyone care what the opinion of a bunch of self-proclaimed, blowhard "journalists" and "writers" have to say about something they know nothing factual about?

the only thing most of them know about "climate change" is when their mother changes the thermostat upstairs.

sorry, but every "blogger" i've ever met in person has turned out to be a "professional student" forced to give themselves a title after turning 35 and still living with their parents... and that title is, "writer", "journalist", or slightly more honestly, "blogger".
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it'd be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?"
