San Francisco to test wireless parking sensors, cause rat races to momentarily open spaces {Engadget}

Jul 15th 2008 11:41AM I'm thinking they aren't worrying about rolling this out right now seeing as how one of their admins just locked everyone out of the whole system.

HD Radio Struggles to Find Audience {Switched.com}

Jul 10th 2008 4:33PM I like listening to the local stations to and from work because of the personalities and getting news relevant to my local. You don't get that with the current canned stations that just play music and ads. I've wanted to switch to an HD radio fro some time but when the least expensive box I can find for my desk at work is over $100 I can't really justify the cost. I can't imagine AM or even FM was comparably expensive when they first came out. Perhaps an HD radio consortium could subsidize the cost of entry and get the hardware manufacturers to drop prices a tad. At least if they really want the format to take off.

Nextel's new BlackBerry: the Curve 8350? {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 2nd 2008 5:14PM You have obviously never been a Nextel user. So far there is not a compelling successor to the iDen PTT network. Last year I had to switch from Nextel to AT&T because the new office is so high up (69th floor) you can't get any service from any carrier. Sprint wanted $150,000 to run a micro tower to our office and AT&T offered to do it for $125 mo. I got the BB 8800 with the PTT service. With AT&T PTT you first have to log in to access the feature (takes about 60 seconds to load) then once you are logged in you have to add PTT ontacts by searching available users which means if I already have your PTT name but you are not logged in (it disconnects randomly on me) you will have to try again when they are logged in to add them. Once they are added you can see if they are logged in or not. Once you select the contact and press the PTT button you must wait (about 15 seconds) for the service to sync with the person on the other end and the connection remains active until you "hang-up". Nextel.....just punch in the PTT number you want and Press the PTT button. Your connected or not and talking right away. For all the work and time it takes to get the AT&T PTT connected I could have dialed the cell number and carried on a complete conversation. If I could get the Curve and service at this location I would go back in a heartbeat and many of my colleagues feel the same way. We're not fanboys we just know what we like and nobody beats Nextel at PTT. Sprint just didn't get this when they bought Nextel.

Polaroid PoGo portable photo printer hands-on, Engadget reader style {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2008 4:01PM It wasn't a matter of IF Crysis would be mentioned but when so I decided to get it out of the way early.

That, and the fact that I was bored.

My next post will probably contain random misspellings to get a rise out of the grammar spelling Nazis.

Drobo gets dev community and SDK beta: run UPnP, BitTorrent, and any other servers you want {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2008 3:30PM "no hdmi out"

WTF? it's a NAS that can stream to your PS3 which does have HDMI out. It sounds to me like what you want is a TIVO. Here, get one of these and a Popcorn Hour and viola!

PS3 firmware 2.40 is live {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2008 9:00AM I take it you missed the father's day sale at Wal-Mart / Best Buy where you got $100 gift card when you purchased a PS3 for $399? Worked out to $299 for the PS3.

"First" US WiMAX deployment goes live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming {Engadget}

Jul 1st 2008 12:14PM I suspect it's more of a "last mile" where the telcos fear to tread kind of deployment. We can't get DSL or broadband cable here in Jackson Hole but the kind folk at DigitalBridge Communications have done us a solid and given us high speed wireless. If Sprint were really smart they would be doing the same thing with their WiMax.

Matrox M-series graphic cards go 4-up natively {Engadget}

Jun 30th 2008 8:48AM Not only do they still exist, they are doing quite well. They simply aren't competing in the highly visible but extremely volatile 3D gaming space. They've got some great gear for running multiple monitors if you don't need all the 3D. You know, trading floors and stuff. If this card draws less than 55 Watts it may be the perfect replacement for our aging PNY 440 MVSs.
