I also use a portable usb drive very frequently. I thought I would pass along a few of my techniques & tools. I use an app called vice versa to synchronize my various applications & profiles like Firefox, thunderbird, Pidgin, Skype & Filezilla. This way I have all my emails, firefox plugins, FTP Passwords. I use TrueCrypt so its all encrypted too.

7-Zip - great unzipping utility
Virtual CD - to load .isos
Hijack This
PC Wizard - This gives a great overarching hardware system analysis.
Process Explorer - Invaluable tool to show what is using system resources
Starter - Invaluable tool to show setup what starts when windows starts also great for managing services.
SpaceMonger - Tool for visually seeing what's taking up space on a HD.
Rename Master - A great renaming tool
mIRC - Who knows when u need to chat.
Skype - Gotta be able to make phone calls.
TightVNC - So I can connect to my home Desktop whenever I need to.

I need a new printer, I've been currently using a Lexmark Z42 from 6+ yrs ago. This thing needs an upgrade BAD.
